Historical information

Edna May Grigg studied Art in South Australia. She studied under Hans Heysen and became a successful painter. She won the Melrose Prize - portrait in oils - that hangs in the Adelaide Art Gallery. The Melrose Prize for portraiture was instituted in 1921. Edna came to Ballarat and was employed as an Art Teacher at SMB from 1931 to 1946.
