A street parade of decorated floats was part of the Centenary of Victoria celebrations in 1934. When the photograph was donated to the City of Box Hill on 15 January 1979 the accompanying letter from Mrs West explained she had found the photograph among those left by an aunt, who she believed had hand-coloured it. Title given on the page 'First prize Float, Box Hill, Centenary.' Mrs West donation was acknowledged by letter by I. Port, the Town Clerk. Photograph looks as if it may have been removed from an album. Image was used by Museum Victoria in their 2008 exhibition 'The Melbourne Story'. Image was also used by Museum Victoria in the accompanying publication to 'The Melbourne Story'.
