Cr Lawrie Lawrenson proposed that there be only one concessional event per year per organisation, whereas Cr Gerald Smart proposed that such organisations should pay concessional rates for all their functions and events. Cr Smart's amendment for unlimited cut rates was unsupported.

The Ringwood Council is puzzled why Ringwood people haven't been patronising shows at the Karralika theatre at the Ringwood Cultural Centre, Mines Rd., Ringwood. The 435 seat theatre, the big convention area and dining facilities are under the one roof. All are used regularly attracting crowds of up to 700. The theatre gains a ready acceptance from schools and community groups, but not with the shows it presents. The last few shows were flops. The theatre was less than one-tenth full for a recent show featuring Leonard Teale.

Ringwood Council will spend $10,000 in an effort to make the Ringwood Convention and Performing Arts Centre profitable. Last year (1990) the centre made its first profit since it opened 10 years ago, but it incurred deficits for 2 financial years before that. The council said there was no proposal to sell the centre and stressed it intended to retain full control irrespective of any management restructuring that may result from the study.
