Historical information

The building showing the corrugated iron pitched roof was part of the former Sunbury Asylum that was built before air conditioning was used in buildings. The circulation of air throughout the buildings was seen as necessary for the comfort and health of both staff and patients. To achieve this various types of ventilation was included in the upper areas of the walls and in the roofs as shown in the image.
