Historical information
A set of 14 glass plate slides of official photography from the Battle of Buna-Gona in 1943. The images were originally taken by famous photographer George Silk, and have featured heavily in histories of the campaign since the war. The slides themselves are 'photographs of photographs' evident by the pins holding down the corners of the images. The slides were likely taken for educational purposes, and would have been used during the war. This is evident by the obscured identification numbers on the Stuart tank in slide 01.
