George W A'Vard (1890-1966) was a long-time resident of the area, known for his bullock team. That team may be off-camera in this photograph, preparing to pull the wagon of logs pictured. His business was operational by 1913, but it is unclear precisely when this photo was taken. The photo is said to have been taken at the Red Mill, which is on 62 Monbulk Road, Belgrave and opened in 1925 as the Belgrave Kiosk and Dance Palais.
