This photo was taken facing north-east on the intersection of Main Street, Kilvington Drive, and Ferres Street in Emerald. Visible in the background of the photograph is the Emerald Newsagency, now occupied by Bell Real Estate.

Significance

This image demonstrates the degree to which a central road, such as Main Street, can change over a span of fifty years.

Physical description

This colour photograph features a row of shops and several parked cars. In the middle of the concrete road is a large green island, fenced in by low wooden logs. Near the centre of the image is a tall telephone pole, and to the right in the foreground is a light blue car.
