Photograph - Railway photograph, 1930s-1950s

Historical information

This photograph seems to relate to damage done to a Railway Line, presumably the Orbost railway line, by a significant flood. There were a number of damaging floods of the Snowy River which caused damage to the railway line adjacent to the River at Orbost, eg. 1934, 1950s, 1970s. Most likely date for this photo is the 1930s or 1950s. This interpretation is made from the style of clothing worn by the two men.

Significance

This photo is significant because it shows the power of flood damage to a railway line in a very graphic way.

Physical description

A b/w photograph of two men sitting on top of a section of railway line which is suspended in mid-air, presumably over a wash-out due to flood damage.
