Historical information

Charlie Stapleton (1863-1954) ran a blacksmith shop at what is now the location of Stapleton Walk in Emerald from 1908 until 1945. Stapleton Walk was named in his honour in 2015 due to the importance of his work as the community blacksmith through those years.

Significance

The blacksmith was an important pillar of the Emerald community in the early 20th century, seen as worthy of commemoration; this photograph remembers what the site of this business looked like when it was in operation.

Physical description

A black and white printed photograph mounted on cream card. The photograph itself is an oval framed by the otherwise blank rectangular printed paper. Within the oval frame, depicted is a fenced yard scattered with a wagon, several wheels, various tools and/or pieces of scrap, and in the background a wooden shed. The upper half of the image is taken up by the sky, while the lower half includes the grassed ground continuing towards the photographer.
