This commemorative medal was produced in Melbourne by Thomas Stokes for sale around Australia to mark the Royal Visit of the Duke of Edinburgh in 1867-8. It features HMS Galate, a ship drivin by steam and sail. During his visit to Sydney there was an attempted assassination of the Duke who received a bullet wound to the back.
