Historical information

The Emerald co-operative society was formed at a meeting at the Emerald Mechanics Institute on 9 December 1944, those present agreed that the solution to a shortage of stock feed caused by the privations of World War II was to form a co-operative society in Emerald. Jack Eudey was elected Chairman, Horrie Wardle was appointed Secretary, and Jack Hirst Manager.

Black and white rectangular photograph printed on matte photographic paper. This black and white photograph depicts a tin shed on an unmade ground. This was the first co-op store at Lumeah which was a guest house within Emerald. The Co-op was run by H.Wardle; circa 1950.
