Part of the Botanical Art Exhibition held at the Emerald Museum by Emerald U3A Botanical Artists, featuring trees and shrubs of the Nobelius Heritage Park circa October 2012.

Significance

The object is artistic, historic and socially significant as it was part of the 2012 Botanical Art Exhibition held at the Emerald Museum circa October 2012. The exhibition featured trees and shrubs of the Nobelius nursery which was opened by the 'renowned botanical artist' Kay Craig. The drawings of the exhibition were all drawn by members of the Emerald U3A.

Labelled front “8”, labelled rear “Ginkgo biloba, The leaves of the Ginkgo biloba through the seasons. Painted by Michele Bowmaker as part of a project by the Botanical Art Class of Emerald U3A 2012. History of the tree. This tree was planted by nobelius Park conservator Carey Williams in September 2010. It was donated to the park by Leah Kenny, proprietor of Emerald Gardens Nursery. The ginkgo is a living fossil, with fossils recognisably related th modern ginkgo from the Permian, dating back 270 million years. The closest living relatives are the cycads.”
