Historical information

The teapot was presented to Carl Oscar Nobelius and Florence Kathleen Prescott by the employees of the Gembrook Nurseries on the occasion of their marriage on April 7, 1904. Oscar was the oldest son of Carl Axel Nobelius. The botanical trim on the pot may be a reference to the nursery.

Significance

The Gembrook Nurseries sold trees throughout Australia and overseas and were a significant local employer for decades commencing in 1892.

Physical description

Ornate silver teapot on stand with burner. The teapot has a hinged lid with a 'strawberry' shaped handle. It has two protrusions on each side to fit onto the twig-work stand. The burner sits in the stand below the teapot and has a hinged lid and a handle.
