Historical information

This switchboard originated from a farming property originally bought by C T Alexander in 1920 and which has remained in the Alexander family since then. Karen Alexander, grand-daughter of C T Alexander, has donated a range of items from the property including domestic, wood-working and agricultural.

Significance

This is an example of an older style switchboard with rewireable fuses - but which was vulnerable to catching fire.

Physical description

Switchboard with old ceramic fuses which were a feature of older homes. It features several ceramic fuses which were rewireable. The switchboard provided a basic level of overload protection. Modern switchboards have (mandated) circuit breakers to reduce the risk of house fires. This switchboard's actual age is unknown but believed to be 40+ years old.
