Historical information

Alexander Mathieson & Son was a prominent maker of hand tools in Scotland during the 19th century. Their success was closely tied to the growth of shipbuilding industries on the Firth of Clyde and the emergence of Glasgow as a major hub. Mathieson planes are highly regarded by collectors and woodworkers. This plane was donated by Karen Alexander and came from the farm of her grandfather who bought the property in 1920.
