Commonly used in wood working. Made in Sheffield.This augur along with a variety of other tools, was donated from a property in Emerald which was used for mixed farming and was owned by C Alexander (although he did not actually live there but leased it out) who bought it in 1920.
Significance
The augur is emblematic of the diverse skills required of the farmer who had to be able to repair their farm and domestic equipment.
Physical description
Old augur or drill bit. Has a spiralling metal shaft with a blade at the end.
