Historical information

This dowelling jig came from an Emerald property which had been owned by the Alexander family since 1920 and was at the property when current owner (and donor), Karen Alexander, moved there in 1986. A dowelling jig is a purpose-made tool that takes the worry out of drilling the holes into which the dowels will be inserted in joinery. The jig acts as a drill guide.

Significance

This tool is emblematic of the variety of skills that small farmers needed to have.

Dowelling Jig - No. 30. Silex brand with four different diameter dowel sleeves / drilling tubes and two depth gauges /stop with original instructions in original box.
