Emily Nobelius (1857-1911) was the wife of nurseryman, Carl Axel Nobelius, who started the Gembrook Nurseries which at their peak (just before WWI) were the biggest in the Southern Hemisphere. Emily and Carl had 11 children, eight of whom grew to adulthood. This photographic portrait is part of a pair - the other being of Emily's husband, Carl Axel Nobelius. The photographer, Alice Mills, was a significant woman photographer in business from 1900 to 1920.
