Emerald was a gathering place for some Australian writers in the early 20th century. She bought an Emerald cottage where she lived and also rented to fellow writers Vance and Netty Palmer. Katharine Susannah Prichard published between 1915 and 1967. 'Working Bullocks' was one of Katharine Susannah Prichard's two major works: it dramatized the physical and emotional traumas of timber workers in the karri country of Australia's south-west.
