The Salvation Army was founded in the slums of London during 1865A by former Methodist minister, William Booth, along with his wife, Catherine.
Since this date, the Salvation army has been providing services to people in need. Including wars or conflict, natural disasters and poverty.

Significance

This image is significant to the history of the Salvation Army. There is also very strong research potential due to the possibility of the image holding great significance to the family or friends of the officer.

Physical description

Black and white portrait rectangular photograph printed on matte photographic paper. This black and white photograph consists of a candid picture of an unknown Salvation Army officer dressed in uniform and standing on the steps of a building ( possibly the Emerald Citadel). The Emerald Citadel was located at 267-271 Belgrave to Gembrook Rd. Currently the location of the HEI Schools Emerald Early Learning Centre. Circa mid 1980s.
