We have a collection of articles that come from homes and businesses in Anglesea. While there are some general articles we are trying to concentrate on local history. We have many household articles from early Anglesea homes.

Significance

Records and preserves history of the European settlement of the district. Our collection includes a small amount about the local aboriginal people, the Wautherong.

Historical information

Mousley's Store was the first store in Anglesea. It was purchased by C W Drayton.

Significance

Mousley's Store was the only shop in Anglesea River in 1940. Contains details of who purchased goods and what they purchased, also the cost.

Iron agricultural seeder with small and large boxes (galvanised) (one of each). Handles at the back to guide the seeder. Chain link at front to harness horsepower. Guide wheel at front.

Pewter alarm clock on stand, bell on top, roman numerals on clock face. Small alarm dial and small temperature dial. Stamped pattern on case. Case holding face has been resoldered to base.

Historical information

Clock was used by the Bell family of Bellbrae.

Brass lozenge 'standard' apothecary weight. Front: Lion standing on a crown in centre with registration symbols on either side. "STANDARD" curved around top with "A. & T. A" below. Reverse: Apothecary symbol in centre with number above and unit below - both in words. All in a beaded border. 3 = DRAM = exactly 1.771 845 195 3125 grams.

Bale Fasteners (3)

Harold E. (Edward) Hurst (1888-1972) born on the banks of the Eumeralla River (near Macarthur) lived in a villa in Newtown called "Eumeralla" (Skene Street). "Boss" Hurst invented, patented and manufactured metal fasteners for wool bales and fencing. (Ref: 'Boss' Hurst of Geelong and Nauru : a life by Don Chambers) - held at the National Wool Museum, Geelong.

Bellows (Saga) - Macro Photography Bellows

Anglesea and District Historical Society, Anglesea

Bellows are the accordian-like pleated expandable part of a camera which allows the lens to be moved with respect to the focal plane for focussing. These bellows are used for macro photography. Bellows also provide a flexible extension between film and lens. They may be part of the camera or come as an optional extra (as these are).

Belt - Nurse's Belt

White metal linked belt. Links have alternating patterns. One pattern solid with faded green centres, the other a grid design. As a fashion accessory they are commonly known as nurse's belts. The links reflect the design of the buckle and are joined by simple rings.

Book - Tennyson in Memorium

"In Memorium" consists of 131 smaller poems of varying length. The stanzas are isometric with the rhyme scheme ABBA, a form that has become known as the "In Memorium Stanza". Tennyson wrote this book after he learned that his beloved friend Arthur Henry Hallum had died suddenly and unexpectedly of fever at 22. It was written over the course of 17 years (1833-1849).
