We have a collection of articles that come from homes and businesses in Anglesea. While there are some general articles we are trying to concentrate on local history. We have many household articles from early Anglesea homes.

Significance

Records and preserves history of the European settlement of the district. Our collection includes a small amount about the local aboriginal people, the Wautherong.

Nautilus Shell - Paper Nautilus or Argonaut

The paper nautilus is excessively thin, white and imperfectly calcified and totally unconnected to the octopus inhabiting it. The female nautilus, also known as an argonaut is an octopus that constructs its own ornate shell or egg case from a substance it secretes from two of its 8 tentacles.

Rondo Contact Printer

The defining characteristic of a contact printer is that the photographic result is made by exposing through the film negative or positive, on to a light sensitive material that is pressed lightly into the film. This exposure box (or contact printer) is used in a dark room to produce a print the same size as the negative. These prints are then reviewed for clarity.

A collectionof light pink/orange cards in a box (6) is part of a Coles Book Arcade Competition Card Series. This one is called "Advertisement Evening". The cards are kept in a cardboard box and have the answers to the questions on the cards. Peach colour card, folded in half, printed in black. Front has simple graphics and text. Inside opens out to single spread listing 24 questions and space to answer them. Back page lists other competition topics.

Slate. Small portable blackboard. Used when paper was scarce or expensive. Slate is a type of stone that can be separated into flat sheets. Sheets were ideal for children to practice a lesson in class. Special pencils also made of slate were used for writing on slates.

Two glass lantern slides of Sydney Harbour Bridge. Post 1932 on Cardboard Box. Ilford used the word "chromatic" to show their plates had a degree of multiple colour sensitivity but is not fully panchromatic. May have a lower blue sensitivity - to be used in mountain scenery.

Carton (paper) with 12 boxes of Brymay Redhead matches containing 20 matches. The boxes depict the head and left shoulder of a red-headed woman and has had 4 major updates since the Logo's introduction in 1946. "Safety matches" presented fewer health risks than earlier matches and greatly minimizes the risk of accidental fire.

Singer Sewing Machine (Black)

Class/Model: 15K. One hundred thousand made between 1890-1957. From Serial No. EH23584 we know the class and model No. How many were made and the date of manufacture. The 15K was used for domestic and industrial sewing. Threads left to right and has a vertical oscillating shuttle.
