Fire Services Museum of Victoria East Melbourne, Victoria

We collect and display objects about all Fire Services past and present in the State of Victoria. We have large holdings of the three current services, MFB (Melbourne), CFA (country centres) and DSE (forests and public lands). We also have significant holdings of smaller and former services, including the 50+ services in metropolitan Melbourne prior to the formation of the MFB in 1891.
Our collection includes approximately 100 fire engines, dating from the 1860's to the 2000's. A small number of these are always on display in our public area in the former 1893 MFB HQ fire station. The rest are garaged in our Newport facility.

Colin Davison 24 August 2013 1:31 AM

I believe that my grandfather Robert John Davison was one of the first members of or volunteers for the Victoria Fire Service. I woould be extremely grateful to learn if you have any information about his involvement, or could send me by email a short document about its formation. Robert emigrated to Melbourne with his new wife, arriving in May 1912, after which they lived at 109 Albert Street east, Brunswick, and later at Embankment Grove, and Donald Grove, Chelsea from about 1916 to 1919, when he returned to the UK.

Peter Leach 13 August 2015 8:03 PM

Wangaratta Fire Brigade is currently restoring the old red Brigade Secretary's Jacket from last century, with a view to having it mounted for display. The jacket is currently missing a brass CFBB button. If anyone can help us procure a button, please contact Peter Leach on 0439614077.

Martin Major 17 May 2016 1:40 PM

I have a framed Certificate of Service for Fireman Ruff of the Sandhurst Brigade dated December 1889. I contacted Bendigo, (Sandhurst) but no-one up there had any interest. I can email a photo if you like.
