Sign, State Electricity Commission of Victoria (SECV), "Bell St Only"
Demonstrates that methods and equipment use by the SEC to give destination information to passengers and later on advertising for events that passengers could access from the trams with a walk. Yields information about an event and its location, but the date of the event is unknown at this time.Sign - painted onto a SEC (very similar to a MMTB auxiliary destination board of the type that could hang on the front of a Ballarat tram car with the words "Bell St Only" on the front and a paper advert on the rear for the Homes and Industries Fair, at the Drill Hall in Curtis St. Has another former painted advertising sign underneath. Date of use not known at the time of acquisition. To be researched. Bell St was a destination on the Ballarat Destination roll, so it may have been used on trams which were not fitted with full destination rolls and then recycled by the SEC for advertising means. Metal sign, fitted with metal hanging brackets, riveted to sign on both sides, made from about 1.5mm sheet steel. Newspaper - Lydia Chancellor collection: Tarnagulla
1. The Tarnagulla Presbyterian church was built in late 1863 at an estimated cost of 650 pounds plus bricks, and opened for services June 19th 1864. The first minister was Rev. Hamilton. A Sabbath School also opened at this time. The success of gold mining in the area and the resultant population fluctuations, had an impact on the church and in 1866 it was only operating on an occasional basis. It closed in the late 1870's, reopening in 1882 as a mission station. In 1912, repairs and improvements valued at 150 pounds were carried out. In 1926, when the Laanacoorie church closed, the building was transported to Tarnagulla to become the Sunday School Hall. In 1975 it became the Uniting Church. 2. The union Bank was originally a sub-branch of Melbourne and built a brick building in 1859. In 1866 the Union Bank bought the two storied building seen in the photo, from the Colonial Bank. where it remained until 1888. Two newspaper articles from the Bendigo Advertiser, one from 22/08/1953 and the other from 29/06/1950 relating to the presbyterian church and the Union Bank in Tarnagulla. Newspaper - Kornhauser Family
This file contains two items: 1/A printout of an article from the website of the Sydney Morning Herald, dated 18/09/2013 (albeit accessed on 28/01/2014), pertaining to the legal efforts on the part of Nicole and Eliezer Kornhauser to secure the rights to operate an (unnamed) Orthodox Jewish school out of their home at 8 Springfield Avenue, St. Kilda East. The Glen Eira City Council denied their application owing to complaints from neighbours pertaining to noise and traffic congestion associated with the facility. The decision was subsequently upheld by the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal. Thus, the Kornhausers have now taken their case to the Supreme Court. 2/A clipping of a newspaper article from The Age, dated 12/01/2014, pertaining to a conflict between Nicole and Eliezer Kornhauser and their neighbours. Said parties were already at odds with another, owing to the neighbours requesting that the Glen Eira City Council deny the Kornhausers permission to extend their facility owing to the aforementioned issues of noise and traffic congestion. But matters came to a head when the couple issued unsolicited death threats to local resident Jannine Gross and her husband – especially in the light of the Council electing to permit the extension after all. There is a discrepancy between the first and second items. The first item implies that the Kornhausers seek permission merely to operate their facility, whereas the second item implies that they seek permission to extend it.kornhauser family, kornhauser eliezer, kornhauser eric, kornhauser nicole, schools, religious structures and establishments, jewish community, legal events and activities, court procedures, vedelago chris, victorian civil and administrative tribunal (vcat), martin philip, springfield avenue, st. kilda east, mansions, merkos women program, resident action, gross jannine, pilling neil -
