Australia's ultimate skiing tour was launched with Back Country Tours guided by Steve Lee, Falls Creek's most famous local and Australian Olympian. The full length of Wombats Ramble was also lined with lights to provide night skiing and boarding on Wednesday and Saturday nights throughout the season. Pete the Big Blue Dragon was also a Falls Creek celebrity and had his own weekly stage show at the Village Bowl and often frequented the Fox Trail Terrain Park. He also had his own website full of games, stories, merchandise and a snow safety video. 2010 also saw the introduction of the Snow Rewards Loyalty Program. Members had access to cheaper Lift Passes and a range of exclusive discounts at both Falls Creek and Hotham. Mine Manager W Hicks. Extracts: Machinery. New Boiler is giving every satisfaction. While bailing water after the Xmas holidays, one of the ropes broke with a full tank of water. The tank being fitted with safety appliances, acted. Therefore no damage was done to the shaft. The old ropes were taken off and replaced by two new ones of 2,500 feet each, with a breaking strain of 34 tons. Mine 7 machinery are all in good working order. 1925 - Portion of Cath. Article details the life of an Eaglehawk man who spent 22 years working in Bendigo mines and who is celebrating his 80th birthday ( no date on article) Wilfred worked at the Unity Mine in Long Guly, when the Prince of Wales, visited it. He also worked at the Red White and Blue, Big Deborah and South Virginia (between 1920 and 1942) He stated worked as a shoveler and then learnt to bore holes and fire with explosives. Orbost Aero Club began in 1969 with Basil Dowie as Chair, David Nixon as Secretary/Treasurer. The group went into recess from 1977-1991 closing in 1997. The mid 1960s were boom years in flying training in Australia and the number of Aero Clubs grew rapidly. The Club played a significant role in the establishment of the small airport at Marlo and in the ongoing operation and development of the airport over the years particularly for patient transfer by aerial ambulance. Geographically situated on the coast Warrnambool has large tracts of sedimentary rock, some of which is sandstone. It therefore was a readily available material and as a relatively soft stone it was easily quarried and cut. By the 1880’s Warrnambool had been established for around forty years and was proving to be a settlement of some wealth. Hence the trend to build bigger and grander homes. There are numerous other commercial buildings which are built in sandstone and many of the original quarries are still visible around the Warrnambool area. Most of the properties are situated in the central part of Warrnambool. This collection of photographs is a good cross-section of some of the significant homes and buildings of Warrnambool. It also shows how they look 100 years after being built.A collection of 18 black and white photographs of sandstone houses, mounted on card and tied loosely with string. Cordial was bought at the local grocery shop or supermarket in the bigger towns/cities. Glass bottles were used for cordial concentrate before plastic became more popular and cheaper. These bottles came in many shapes and sizes.Small clear glass bottle with rectangular base, straight sides two thirds of the way up and then tapering gradually to the opening. It has a metal goldish coloured lid. The label on the back gives directions for making cordial. Carl HOLMBERG No 314 enlisted in the 8th Light Horse Regt on 14.9.1914. Embarked for Egypt 25.2.1915 then Gallipoli 16.5.1915. Transferred to Machine Gun Section 28.5.1915. WIA 7.8.1915 GSW's to neck, face and right shoulder. DOW's complicated by septicemia at sea. Buried at sea between ANZAC cove and Mudros Island. Henry HOLMBERG initially enlisted as No 334. There is some confusion to it, possibly 234 in the 8th Light Horse Regt. Embarked for Egypt 25.2.1915 then Gallipoli 16.5.1915. Hospitalised with dysentery 7.8.15 then diagnosed as gastroenteritis. Embarked for Australia 16.10.1915 classed as enteric fever. Classed fully fit he embarked for England 7.9.1916 as No 26673 in 3rd reinforcements 8th FA Brigade. Transferred to 1st Div Ammunition Column 23.3.1917, mustered as Driver 4.7.1917. WIA 6.10.1917 with GSW's to left thigh, right knee, shoulder and arm severe. Discharged from the AIF 29.8.1918.
