Samuel Lynn (1865-1949) was a farmer and grazier at Jarrahmond. He bred Clydesdales. The 13th Light Horse Regiment was formed at Broadmeadows in Victoria in March 1915; it was the third light horse regiment to have been raised in that state. Its regimental number quickly led to it becoming known as the "Devil's Own" regiment. It left Australia on 28 May and disembarked in Egypt on 29 June 1915. Margaret Bennett was a student at Ballarat Teachers' College in 1949. She attended the Ballarat School of Mines as a full-time day student for three years, gaining her Diploma of Art in 1972. She was Drum Major of the Ballarat Ladies' Pipe Band from c1954-1955 and wore this shoe buckle in that role. She was also the set and costume designer for Junior Light Opera Company. One leather and pewter shoe buckle, with the pewter buckle engraved with images of scotch thistles. On the back is a leather loop through which the shoelaces were tied. This eagle gave visitors a 'close-up' view of this huge bird as he sat on the side of the long bridge. Else Oertel was a German internee in Camp 3A from 1940-1945. The brooch was made for her by another internee in the camp. This silver daisy brooch is an example of the ingenuity of the internees in making use of anything at hand & repurposing it for much more than originally intended. In August 1940, 13th Light Horse (Gippsland) converted from horse to mechanised initially as 13th Motor Regiment then 13th Armoured Regiment. Trained in Victoria and as the Japanese threat to the mainland declined the regiment was disbanded in October 1943. William Valentine Hill (1854-1940) journalist, was the owner of 'Eignbrook',10 Pembroke Street from 1904. His wife was Annie Boak (1865-1943); they were married in 1885. William Hill (Bill) Dempsey was his grandson. His mother Laura Constance Hill married Herbert T Dempsey in 1925.Original sepia photograph of the street view of a weatherboard in the Queen Anne style with a steep pitched iron roof; house is fronted by a picket fence. It was part of a collection of Legacy items from Valma Hutchinson (nee Wigg), a former junior legatee. Else-Lore and her mother Else Oertel were German internees in Camp 3A from 1940-1945. The German Red Cross sent items to the internees in the camps and this tin of chocolate was one of the items given to the Oertel family. Else-Lore Hukins donated the item, which she describes as a 'treasured item'.Round metal tin with plastic-wrapped cake of chocolate inside. Framed collection of items relating to the life membership of General Sir Dallas Brooks awarded by the Frankston Returned Sailors, Soldiers & Airmen's Club dated 18th April, 1964. The frame contains the following items: a Life Membership card, a 'gold' key to the Frankston club, a RSS&A members badge of the day and an engraved label with a description of the presentation items. Sir Dallas Brooks was Governor of Victoria from the 18th October 1949 to the 7th May 1963. He and his wife retired to Frankston to live, he died in Frankston on the 22nd of March 1966 (aged 69).
