Rev William Butters (1810 - 1887). Born Hibbaldstone, Lincolnshire on 24 January 1810. Entered the Wesleyan ministry in 1833 and sent as a missionary to Van Dieman's Land. Worked with convicts at Port Arthur, then served at Hobart, Ross and Launceston. In 1850 he was appointed to Melbourne. His health failed during the unprecedented difficulties initiated by the discovery of gold in 1851. Appointed to Adelaide 1855 - 1862. returned to Victoria in 1862, but his health broke down completely and he returned to England in 1863 and became a supernumerary. A founder of the Wesleyan Mission Carlton. President of the Australasian Conference in 1858. In 'Moorabbin a Pictorial History1862 - 1994' by John Cribbon, William Harvey, is shown in the 1862 Rate Book, to be the owner occupier of a paling house in Argus Road valued at 15 Pound. This person may be related to the W Harvey in the photo.Photograph is black and white. In this photograph their is a father and mother, and their five children. Eaglehawk was declared a municipality 22/7/1862. Malcolm Cameron, came from Scotland to Australia with his wife Isabella in 1862. From late 1862 they lived in Bacchus Marsh and remained there for the rest of their lives. After working as a shepherd for some time, Malcolm Cameron was able to acquire land for a farm a few kilometres north west of Bacchus Marsh. The farm was called Glen View but this was later changed to Grand View. It is known to have been a wheat farm. Malcolm Cameron died aged 89 in 1922. His wife died in 1926. Mrs Cameron is presumed to be the woman seated in the photograph and the younger people the Cameron children, Catherine (b.1863), Marion (b.1864)), Mary (b.1867), John (b.1870) and Isabella (b.1872). The image shows a family group, the Cameron family of Bacchus Marsh, standing and sitting in the garden in front of their farm house. The group comprises four women, a girl, a boy and an elderly man, who is presumed to be Malcolm Cameron. The woman seated in the middle of the group is likely to be Mrs.Cameron. To the left in the picture is a dog. In the background is the weatherboard farm house, a simple construction with two large chimneys and a skillion extension.On the front: Stevenson & McNicoll. 1950's era could also be used as a chamber pot. Hoffman's Brick and Tile Company was established in 1862 in Brunswick. They began making pottery in the 1930''s but after WW2 the focus shifted back to bricks and tiles. They were best known for their ranges of Art pottery with Australian motifs. A circular cream coloured ceramic object. It's 14 centimetres high and 27centimetres in diameter at the top. The base is 18 centimetres in diameter extending up 12 centimeters to a 20 centimetre diameter. There is a two centimetre wide and one centimetre deep grove extending out with a one centimetre wide and 2.5 centimetre high rim. William Watts arrived in Bacchus Marsh in 1862 and for many years conducted a boot and shoe makers business in Main Street. This building, known as ‘Kentbury’ was built about 1858, and was formerly the premises of Bastings, cordwainer. The premises were enlarged in 1876 and occupied by Weaver. The avenue of trees is along the main pathway of the old section of the Sunbury Cemetery. In 1862 the cemetery in Sunbury was laid out in Christian denominational sections. There were other sections set aside for paupers, heathens and pagans. Over the years the size of the cemetery has increased to keep pace with the growth of Sunbury's population.Sunbury Cemetery is one of the oldest cemeteries in the local area.A non-digital coloured photograph of an avenue of trees in a cemetery. This skirt belonged to Miss Margaret Morison Ward Cole and was reportedly worn for her role as bridesmaid for the marriage of Miss Barkly, daughter of Sir Henry Barkly. George Ward Cole, father of Margaret, was an early member of the Victorian Parliament and the family featured prominently in Melbourne Society in their time. They established a substantial home known as “St Ninians” at 10 Miller Street in 1841. The family reportedly entertained Melbourne’s first Royal visitor The Duke Of Edinburgh, Queen Victoria’s second son at St Ninians in 1867. In later years St Ninians was subsequently sub divided and later demolished. Sir Henry Barkly was the second Governor of Victoria.A cream paper silk taffeta crinoline skirt c.1862. This skirt features a flat front across the front waistband but a gathered across the back. At the front it is floor length whilst at the back it features a small train. Presumably the skirt was concealed at the sides and back at the front features decorations that do not continue around the back. The front decoration consists of three tiers of pleated pale violet to pale pink silk ribbon with a deep drop of cream lace. Edmund Craigie Grant died 1894 63 years. Married 1862. The firm Grant, Lamont & Coy were the first to erect Quartz Crushing machinery at Concongella Creek and later in Stawell at what became North Park. In 1922 Robert Campbell Edwards (1862-1946) established the Campbell Edwards Trust for religious, educational and charitable purposes. This book is the story of Robert Campbell Edwards' life from his birth in Drumgowan, Ireland until his death in South Yarra, Victoria. James Armytage lived at Tirkeith, Winchelsea around 1903. He was born in 1866. His was the son of Feliz Armytage, and the grandson of George Armytage (one of Victoria's early colonists.
