A Melbourne Junior Legacy certificate that was awarded to Derithe Ames for first place in the 4.45pm Intermediate Class in December 1958. Throughout the year Melbourne Legacy provided classes for Junior Legatees such as dancing, gymnastics and eurythmics. Their skills were showcased in the Annual Demonstration. The certificate shows there were prizes and recognition for achievements. The certificate was with a group of items donated by Legatee Derithe Harrison, including several certificates, a silver metal trophy, and a green Junior Legacy patch for a uniform.A record of the recognition Junior Legatees received for achieving excellence in their classes.Printed certificate on white card awarded to Derithe Ames for first place in 4.45pm Intermediate Class. The metal plate machine used plates that contained names, addresses and classifications of each State Electricity Commission of Victoria employee working on the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme. The plates were put through the machine onto pay envelopes. See also: KVHS 0848, KVHS 1046SECV employed many people on the KHES and used the latest technology of the time to pay each of them including each one with a pay slip.1. Tram originally built for The North Melbourne Electric Tramways and Lighting Co. (NMETL) in 1906 as a straight sill open cross bench tram. Photograph is of the tram body on an un-motored truck or wheel set and has been posed for an official MMTB photograph in 1925, soon after the workshops were completed. It shows the destination of "M River" for Maribyrnong River.Shows the only type of fully open cross bench tram operated by the MMTB. This style was popular as a summer tram in North America. Originally built by Brill (USA) in 1906 and assembled by Duncan and Fraser for the NMETL as Tram No. 14. A photo from a newsletter from September 1953. The photo shows the Footscray boys receiving certificates and badges from the President of Legacy, Legatee S Nevile. The article says the group offers boys the chance of forming lasting friendships with other Junior Legatees, and evening of healthful exercise, games, basketball, etc under the guidance of a fully qualified and capable physical education instructor. Gymnasium kit and free milk are provided for each boy and during the year other interests are available, such as picture nights, pie nights, Christmas parties and outing to Luna Park etc. The Footscray Class was in the Drill Hall, at the corner of Barkly and Gordon Streets Footscray at 7.30 on Friday nights. Grace Mitchell, a talented artist in later life and baker managed a pastry shop business near the corner of Mt Pleasant and Main Roads Eltham in the 1950’s. Shortly after her marriage to Arthur Mitchell in 1948 he had an accident that caused a head injury and was unable to work. Grace realised she needed to be home to care for her husband as well as earn an income. She managed the bureaucracy of council permits, made modifications to her home with savings to get the business off the ground without having to borrow money. Grace and Arthur were avid gardeners and would grow, wash and mince vegetables for pasties while Grace hand made and rolled the pastry. They cooked and minced their own meat for the pies and the fruit for the sweet pies came from their orchard at the rear of the property. She also baked scones and cakes. Grace operated her pastry shop for over 16 years. She supported the Shillinglaw Cottage Preservation Campaign to preserve the cottage through its Flavour of Eltham community cookbook published in 1964 and hosted cooking classes in the new Living and Learning Centre. Photograph demonstrates the swimming uniforms worn in the early 20th century, and indicates that swimming classes were taught at Sunshine State School.The item is an enlarged photographic reproduction stuck to a 5 mm chipboard. The Onslow was decommissioned in 1999. She was one of 5 other Oberon's and gave the Royal Australian Navy a formidable submarine force. The motto of the submarine arm is " Strength, silence, surprise". She was laid down in 1967 , launched 1968 and commissioned 1969. She had a length of 89.9M a beam of 8.07M she had speed of 15 knots above water and 12 knots submerged. She had compliment of 60 sailors and 8 officers. Her armament consisted of six 21 inch bow torpedo tubes capable of launching anti-ship and anti-submarine Mk48 torpedoes and anti-ship UGM 84 Harpoon missiles.
