The Norman Oliver collection. Norman Oliver was three times Mayor of Bendigo - 1950-51, 1964-65, 1970-71. One typed page, titled 'The Editor, Bendigo Advertiser', unsigned and undated, but found in a 1964-65 sequence. Letter seems to indicate the date is sometime in 1964 when Oliver was Mayor. Third from left in the back row is Peter Francis Hopley, his brother, John Hopley, is sixth from the left in the front row. Peter Francis Hopley and his wife raised a family of four boys and seven girls at Spring Gully Road, Spring Gully. Three of their sons, Paddy, Frank and Bob, played football for Kennington, with Bob later playing for Golden Square. In the first year he won the best and fairest trophy. Some of the names are: Howard, McEwen and McPherson. Kastellorizian Association of VictoriaAward, A N Bisas Memorial Shield, 1963
The Cassie Football Club was part of the Young Men's Castellorizian Club (YMCS), 1962 - 1965, an organisation established within the Castellorizian Association of Victoria to cater for the sporting, social and leisure pursuits of the second and third generations of the Castellorizian youth in Melbourne. Whilst the football team was the main focus for both players and supporters, the YMCS also fielded cricket and debating teams. This football trophy was awarded to the Best & Fairest for the 3 years of the club's duration - N Constance 1963, N Constance 1964 and L Scotis 1965. This item is of social significance as it represents the hey day of the club, with both an active ladies and men's group supporting the youth. Membership was at its peak across the organisation and the generations, with the sporting teams becoming a key focus of social events. This trophy also symbolises the assimilation of the Castellorizians in Australia in fielding teams in the typical Australian sports of Australian Rules Football and cricket.Wooden Shield with 9 silver stirling plaques attached, including a ribbon across the top and the bottom, a central shield, and 3 small shields either side of the central shield. The 1883 date refers to the establishment of the Royal Dutch Cricket Association. Represents a link between Anglo-Dutch sporting connections.Small brown wooden shield with a plastic medallion in black, yellow and gold.Circular medallion displaying two crossed cricket bats in front of a wicket with a crown above them. Below this is the date "1883" and along the bottom half is the name of the association. Rear has a mounting hole. On back of shield is a sticker which names the manufacturer of the shield. -

Ticket to picnic at Park Orchards on 21 December 1936, organised by the St Kilda Unemployed Organisation with the support of the St Kilda City Council, Mayor (Cr Alfred Levy), Archie Michaelis MLA, and 'other well-known gentlemen'. The ticket appears to have been perforated to allow vouchers, printed on the back (for bus, dinner, toys, stockings, ice cream and tea) to be separated and used. Park Orchards is a residential suburb 23km north east of Melbourne that was created in 1925 on land used for orchards when timber merchants Australis Sharp and John Taylor launched the Park Orchards Country Club estate. Buyers were not attracted to the estate, and for many years all that existed were a clubhouse and various sporting facilities.
