"I've Told Every Little Star" was a popular song with music by Jerome Kern and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, published in 1932. The song was introduced in the musical play, Music in the Air. Layton & Johnstone were an American vocal and piano duo in the 1920s and 1930s, consisting of Turner Layton (baritone and piano) and Clarence “Tandy” Johnstone (tenor). The phonograph disc record was the primary medium used for music reproduction until late in the 20th century, replacing the phonograph cylinder record—with which it had co-existed from the late 1880s through to the late 1920s. Records retained the largest market share even when new formats such as compact cassette were mass-marketed. By the late 1980s, digital media, in the form of the compact disc, had gained a larger market share, and the vinyl record left the mainstream in 1991. This item is an example of music popular in the mid 20th century.Double sided black disc with a single central hole. This lantern was made by Thomas Ward in 1884 for his daughter Alice Fawthrop Ward to see her way to the little church Wellington Road, where she played the organ for the mid week service. An early example of lighting used in the late 1800s. Additionally this particular light was made by Thomas Ward who was a part of a prominent family in Portland at the time. Thomas was part of the crew that went out to the Admella Shipwreck. The above mentioned church was built in 1870, and is now part of a private residence. Metal lantern painted cream. Round base with 6 rectangle shaped glass panels with 2 curved reinforced metal braces rounding the circumference of the body. One of the panels is a functioning door to allow candle access, door is secured by a thin pin with a ring pull to slide pin up and down. Top is domed with a decorative waves cap. Thin metal carry handle attached by two side braces. This book has been in the collection of the Warrnambool and District Historical Society for many years and little is known of its origins. ‘Anne Watson’ may be Annie Watson, nee Grant (1830-1906), the wife of John Watson who came to Victoria in 1855 and had a farm in the Cudgee area. There is a reference to a ‘G. Geary’ as a member of the Belfast (Port Fairy) Choral Society in 1860. This is an early memento of settlers in the Warrnambool area and their religious adherence and, as such, is of some interest. This is a hard cover book of 391 pages. The cover is brown leather with gold lettering on the spine. The pages are gilt-edged. The inscription is handwritten in black ink. There are two mauve stamps of the Warrnambool and District Historical Society on the front and back pages. The cover is a little scuffed. ‘Presented to Anne Watson by her nephew, Godfrey N. B. Promoted T/Sgt - Airman Pilot 28.2.42, embark for England for more training 9.4.42, 16.6.43 posted on strength of the RAF, promoted Flt Sgt 19.7.43, posted in Burma with 615 Sqd RAF flying Spitfires 16.10.43, hospital 2.1.44 for 3 months, promoted to Flying Officer 30.12.44, discharged from the Airforce at RAF Station Poona 14.12.45. In 2016/17 a recommendation was put forward for Chatfield to be awarded the DFM (Distinguished Flying Medal) relating to 2 actions in Burma. This was downgraded to a Commendation for Gallantry. Penleigh Boyd, Robin and Patricia Boyd's son, writes “Prior to 1950 Robin, like most other amateur or hobby photographers, took black and white printed photographs. The oldest slides date from 1950 when Robin and Patricia travelled to Europe on Robin’s Robert Haddon Travelling Scholarship.” In 1948 Robin Boyd was awarded ‘joint first place’ in the Robert Haddon competition for his design of Mildura art gallery. The scholarship helped fund their first overseas trip. Robin and Patricia were passengers on the Greek ship “Cyrenia” departing in May 1950, passing through the Suez Canal and landing in Genoa five weeks later. Photograph taken in the Celia Little Room at Mission to Seafarers Melbourne. The Celia Little Room was named in honour of the aunt of one of the serving (and resident) chaplains. The room is a multi-function room, being used at times for banquets or, as the photograph shows, for relaxation, by visiting seafarers. The magazine read by the man on the right is the International version of the Life magazine published dated from 24 November 1958, with actress Kim Novak holding a black cat on cover. This photograph was published in the Port of Melbourne Quarterly (July-September 1959) held in the Mission's archives.
