The Ballarat Trades Hall building is located at 24 Camp Street, Ballarat. The foundation stone was laid in October 1887. (Architects were Messrs James and Piper and builders were Messrs Lietch and Outtrim.) Over several decades, the façade of the building has fallen into disrepair and was posing a safety risk. Thanks to Victorian heritage grants and ongoing public donations, refurbishment of the façade is currently underway by Troon Pty Ltd. The photos in this entry show the deterioration of the building and the progress in restoring it to its former state. Photographs of the Union 2018 State Election Campaign team. On 23 April 2018, Matthew Guy (Opposition Leader, Liberal Party) visited the City of Ballarat as part of his election campaign. Whilst Mr Guy was inside of the Ballarat Council building, activists from Trades Hall gathered outside with an enormous inflatable lobster. The lobster is a reminder of allegations made in 2017 that Guy dined on lobster with alleged mafia entities who may have been donors to the Liberal Party. 23 April 2018 - 2 photos. Joe Hockey was Treasurer in the Abbott (Liberal Coalition) ministry. He also served in the Howard (Liberal Coalition) ministry. The book was written when he was still an MP and speculated upon whether he would ever become Prime Minister of Australia. However he is no longer in parliament and went on to become the Ambassador of Australia to the United States. The book also contains personal biographical detail. Punks for West Papua : The documentary, Brennan, Antony (Ash), Circa 2016
Jody Bartolo and his band 'Diggers with Attitude' founded Punks for West Papua with the aim to raise money and awareness for the Free West Papua cause. West Papua was overtaken in 1969 by a rigged vote by Indonesia. The Indonesian military has killed hundreds of thousands of West Papuans since then. There has been a ban on journalists and foreign aid to enter West Papua which means that the killings of hundreds of thousands of West Papuans by Indonesian military have been kept secret. The West Papuan plight has thus not received due attention over a significant number of years. Photograph: Kim Beazley, Marg Card, Karen Overington, Dianne Hadden Kim Beazley is a former diplomat, he was an ALP federal MP, deputy prime minister and leader of the opposition. Beazley was part of the Hawke/Keating cabinet and served in such roles as Minister for Defence and Minister for Finance. Dianne Hadden was an ALP member, but resigned and became an independent. She served in the Victorian Legislative Council from 1999-2006. Ms Hadden stood for the Legislative Assembly seat of Ballarat East in 2007, but was unsuccessful. Marg Card unsuccessfully contested the 1998 federal election for the seat of Ballarat. She served as a councillor and mayor at the Moorabool Shire. Karen Overington was a former welfare worker and served as a councillor and mayor (Sebastopol Borough) before she was elected to federal parliament in 1999. Karen did not contest the 2010 election. Photograph: Catherine King and Gough Whitlam at Trades Hall Catherine King is the federal ALP member for Ballarat and has been office since 2001. She was a cabinet minister in the second Rudd ministry and is now part of the Shadow Cabinet. Gough Whitlam was Australian Prime Minister from 1972 to 1975. The Whitlam government was a reformist government that introduced Medibank, the end of conscription, and free university education. His government was dismissed (parliament was dissolved) on 11 November 1975 by the Governor General Sir John Kerr owing to parliament's failure to pass Appropriation Bills. Malcolm Fraser was appointed as caretaker Prime Minister until an election was held.
