This book was given to Ivy Scouller in 1899 as a Sunday School prize. Ivy Scouller married Harry Herbert George Watson (son of Mr. and Mrs. Watson of Warragul) James Cameron (1846-1922) was a prominent Orbost citizen - a justice of the peace, shire councillor, guardian of St James Anglican Church, Sunday school superintendent and president of the local agricultural society. James married 19-year-old Sarah Scouller, of Birregurra on 30 April 1879 at Colac, .This book, one of a series, was a popular example of children's literature with a religious theme in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.A hard cover book, titles "Chrissy's Endeavour". The cover is grey. The title is in black print on a gold background with a dotted border. The cover is decorated with green leaves and silver flowers. The book is a collection of index cards transcribed from the Register of Baptisms from 1849 to 1991 at the St. John's Anglican Church in Ballan. These cards were then photocopied ten to a page and assembled and bound into this book. The book contains Volume 1 A -K and Volume 2 L -Z and the wording on the Title Page "This is a copy of the transcription, which was completed by Roy Huggins and a team of volunteers at Ballan. Acknowledgment is given to The Rector without whose permission the project could not have been completed. March 1991."The book is significant in that it contains a complete register of Baptisms conducted at the Church from 1849 to 1991 in alphabetical order. Photographs of Ian and Margaret Rose McKendrick (nee Vyner) on their wedding day. Margaret was the daughter of Reta and Harry Vyner who were early residents of the Kiewa area during the construction of the Hydro Electric Scheme. Margaret and Ian were married at St. Mathews Anglican Church, Albury on 11th January 1958. The cream dress that Margaret wore was her Mother's dress, Reta Vyner. This Brassiere belong to Mrs Zilpah Winifred Carroll (nee Parker) (1914 - 2001) and formed part of her trousseau. Zilpah, known as Win, married Harold Stewart (Bill) Carroll on Dec 21, 1938 at St MAry's Anglican Church on Glen Eira Rd, Caulfield. The Carrolls moved to Belgrave with their children in 1954 and lived there for over 40 years. Zilpah was supposed to be names "Zilpha" after a fictional heroine, however her father misspelled the name on her birth certificate. Cream lace bra with elastic and ribbon shoulder straps, two buttons to stretch and fasten at front.

The Fashion & Design collection of the Kew Historical Society includes examples of women’s, men’s, children’s and infants’ clothing from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. Items in the collection were largely produced for, or purchased by women in Melbourne, and includes examples of outerwear, protective wear, nightwear, underwear and costume accessories. Golda Whelan, a designer with Hartnell of Melbourne designed this wedding dress for her daughter Liane Whelan. The King's Colour was presented to 8th Light Horse in 1904 for service in South Africa. It, together with the 1920 Colour, was laid up in the Anglican Church Benalla. In 1976 both colours were found in a cupboard at the church. The 8th/13th Victorian Mounted Rifles Regiment arranged for a case for the colours to be mounted on the wall at the church. In the early eighties it became necessary to remove the case to allow building work at the church and the case and colours were donated to the 8/13 Victorian Mounted Rifles Regimental Collection. Representative example of a King's Colour dating from 1904 presented to a Light Horse Regiment with a close connection to regional Victoria. EDHS Newsletter No. 270 June 2023 At our next meeting at 2.00pm on Saturday 10th June 2023 we are pleased to have Dr. Geoffrey Sandy to present to us on the WW1 Soldier Welcome Home Committees, with specific reference to Eltham. Geoffrey is an author, parish historian and parish archivist for St Margaret’s Anglican Church in Eltham. Soldier Welcome Home Committees (SWHC) were established throughout Australia during WW1 by the soldier’s local community - their home. Despite WW1 being a well-researched area of Australian history, little has been published on the SWHCs. The work of these committees is an important part of our war history, and our volunteer history. As women were often well-represented, and active within the SWHCs, it is also important to our history of Australian women. Geoff has undertaken a detailed case study of the Soldier Welcome Home Committee at Eltham (SWHCE). During the WW1 period Eltham can be described a small rural community. The donation was greatly appreciated. Heather was Pipe Major of the Bendigo Ladies Pipe Band. The band made a guard of honour for Heather Pain's wedding to Neil Reeves at St. Paul's Anglican Church Bendigo in 1957. The band then led the wedding party up the street to Mitchell Street. Christopher Joseph Sarovich married Susannah Botley. There are a number of spellings of his surname. He was involved in trade along the Murray River and they met at this time. They moved to Melbourne and the Sarovich family had a furrier family business in Port Melbourne, but resided in Surrey Hills. They owned a number of houses along Whitehorse Road, including the site of the Balwyn Community Centre. The last remaining property in family hands was sold to the Camberwell Council by Mrs Margaret (Peg) Grossman, nee Sarovich. According to the certificate, he was a stonemason, living at 27 Victoria Street, North Melbourne. His father was Julien Hardy, a carpenter, and his mother was Jean Marie Penton. He was born at Mon Joie, Normandy, France, near the town of Vire. Elizabeth Sophia Francis was the daughter of Nicholas Cage? Burchardt, a banker, and Elizabeth Leslin. This reproduction photograph was donated in 1986 during research for the first history of the school, 'The Westbourne and Williamstown Grammar Schools: A History of the First 120 Years (1867-1986)' by historian Joseph Johnson. It pictures female students in 1954. The students are pictured at Holy Trinity Hall which was situated behind the Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Nelson Place, Williamstown. The hall was located on the corner of Aitken and Pasco Streets, Williamstown, and was home to the school for 41 years from 3 February 1915. In 2008, Holy Trinity Williamstown approached the school to take possession of and relocate the heritage listed building, so that the church could redevelop its property.The relocation of Holy Trinity Hall was an enormous task and very large commitment by Westbourne Grammar to its heritage. Considerations included cost, relocation logistics, architectural conservation, modern building codes and educational facility standards. In 2010, after more than two years of process between the Anglican Church and Westbourne Grammar, including approval from Heritage Victoria and assistance from the Labour government's Building the Education Revolution program, the Holy Trinity Hall was moved to the Truganina campus and once again became a site of gathering and learning for Westbourne Grammar students. The Album was compiled by Nancy McHaffie late 1990's, with the assistance of Edith Jeffery's, with her book "Garden of Memories" and extensive knowledge of Phillip Island. The Cemetery lies back from the road and is surrounded by Manna Gums, rare Peppermint Gums, Blackwoods and other native trees. In all 25 acres of land were set aside as Crown Land in the land settlement of 1868. There are 6.2 acres of wetlands near the cemetery entrance.FANNY LAGAL (nee THOMPSON): Fanny arrived in Australia in the early 1920s. After her husband died she arrived on Phillip Island. She worked at "Summerland House" and later at the "Isle of Wight Hotel". She took great pride in keeping the altar linen and generally looking after the Anglican Church. Those who knew her said she was a gracious lady with a great sense of humour. Fanny went to a nursing home at Frankston where she resided until she died in February 1980, aged 90. These were probably the original oiled weatherboards which were used in 1928. In front of the church is a wide wire gate and a smaller wired gate, and part of a fence can be seen on the right. There are shrubs planted against the church wall and a noticeboard is attached to the front wall of the sanctuary. The sign says 'St Martins Church of England' but the rest is illegible. Tall trees can be seen behind the building.

GFS Australia began as a local branch of the Girls' Friendly Society founded in England in 1875 by Mary Townsend. This was an Anglican Church group which formed to give maids and female domestic staff spiritual guidance and social activities for their days off. The Society later also functioned in part as an employment agency. The first local Australian branch was formed in Adelaide in 1879, with branches being established in all states by 1901. Vera Constance Sophie Saunders (1897 -1967) was the daughter of Arthur Scott Saunders and Agnes Louise Stuart Morris. Her father was a storekeeper in Orbost.The Girls' Friendly Society was an early youth group and was associated with the Anglican Church and were a common way to attract children and teenagers to the congregation. The group is an example of the social importance of the churches in rural communities in the early 20th century.A folded card which is a senior candidate's card for membership of the Girls' Friendly Society. This is a photograph of a group of people dressed up in traditional Japanese costumes for a Church of England bazaar and fete C 1900. in the late 19th and early 20th centuries Churches in Orbost provided venues for social activities, fellowship and entertainment. Many concerts, festivals and money-raising fetes were held by the church committees. St. James' Anglican Church, Orbost, was conceived and built as a memorial to the men 'who served and suffered during the Great War' as noted on the foundation stone. This small bowl was won by Alex Todd for marksmanship at the Holy Trinity Anglican Church Bazaar in Bacchus Marsh in 1935. It was described in the Bacchus Marsh Express newspaper as a piece of Local Objet d'Art. The Express noted that it was 'made and donated to the Ladies' Guild by Mr. Walter Simon, of Bacchus Marsh. A local osage orange tree furnished the wood for the bowl, which was one of many articles that Mr. Simon's lathe has shaped from time to time, the grain of the osage timber being especially suitable for such work', Express, 25 May, 1935, p.2. Late 19th Century English Oak Roll Top Desk presented to the Rev. Tyssen by the parishioners of the Maldon Anglican Church on 1st March 1905. The story behind the roll top desk. It is made from English oak. There is a plaque on the side that declares it was presented to the Rev. Josiah Tyssen, Vicar of Holy Trinity Church in Maldon, by the parishioners on the 1/3/1905. The desk was donated by Phil Thomas who is the grandson of a Canon in the Church of England who was probably given the desk by Josiah Tyssen after Josiah retired in 1949. Sadly Rev.
