In 1949-50 the aims of the school was to: 1. Give all students a sound general and cultural education to the Intermediate standard for technical Schools. 2. Prepare those with the necessary ability for the higher professional courses of the Ballarat School of Mines in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil and Mining engineering, Applied Chemistry, Metallurgy, Assaying, Architecture, Art and Crafts or technical Teaching. 3. In addition to a sound education, it gives students not proceeding to the higher courses, a pre-vocational training which will enable them to become competent artisans in any of the skilled apprenticeship.Five page booklet on white paper with blue ink. It relates to the Ballarat Junior Technical School, including information on the school aims, curriculum, technical education, fees, cadet corps, boarding, etc. The aims of the Ballarat Junior Technical School was : - 1. "BERRY, ANDERSON & CO Bookbinder ...The Ballarat Junior Technical School opened in 1913 as a division of the Ballarat School of Mines. The first location was the Dana Street Primary School, and the first principal was Albert W. Steane. In 1921 a custom built building was erected on the grounds of the Ballarat School of Mines. A number of the students enlisted in the Australian Infantry Forces (AIF) during 1913, 1914. They were Robert Borradale, Albert Burge, Howard Bennett, Norman Carmichael, Reginald Crick, Herbert Collins, Frances Davis, Arthur Dixon, Frank Edwards, George Gilbert and Sydney Townsend. Frances Davis was killed while serving. Those who enlisted have been remembered with an Honour Board with their names. This is at SMB.Book is charcoal blue cloth on hard cover with red leather spine and corners. End papers are brown/grey "stone" patterned thick gloss paper. Name of school and type of book stamped on gold on the spine - REGISTER, BALLARAT JUNIOR TECHNICAL SCHOOL" It is the first Ballarat Junior Technical School Roll Book. The book includes handwritten names, age, date of birth, address, school last attended, grade, qualifications, date of entry, cause, results and remarks. It was a School for Junior Technical Work in Science, Art and Trade. This Prospectus gives information about the aim of school, courses of study, scholarships, standards of admission, holidays, evening classes, regulations, rules, sports, staff, advice to students and parents, railway and tram fares and syllabuses of work. As this was the first year of the School, Staff were introduced and their previous positions were detailed. Head Master was Mr P McCormick who had been head of the Junior Technical School at the Working Men's College. The Senior Master was Mr Bruce who had also been at the Working Men's College. Mr Hauser was selected for his position at the Education Department and would be the English Master. Mr Gilmore was the Art Master and had been at the Working Men's College. Mr Lewis was appointed Mathematical Master. He was a graduate from Melbourne University. The Science Master was Mr R A White and was an instructor at the Junior Technical School, Bendigo School of Mines and Industries. Mining, chemistry, geology, metallurgy and art were taught. In c.1907 a Junior Technical School commenced to operate at the School of Mines and Industry. This was to enable boys who had completed primary school the opportunity to continue their education and learn skills to assist them in their future. In c.1961 the Junior Technical School ceased to operate with that function being transferred to the White Hills and Kangaroo Flat technical schools.Grey soft covered booklet with green printing. This was known as Berry ...Words on the building on the south west corner of Sturt Street are visible. "NATIONAL MUTUAL BUILDING". This building was used by Mark's Jewellers, and then Allan Bros. Jewellers. The next building has the writing "ARGUS" and Printers, Bookbinders, Stationers, on it. This was known as Berry Anderson's. I suspect that these are photographs before the celebrations for the coronation.
