Yields information the buildings, buildings and scene at the intersection of Sturt and Grenville Sts, 1929Rose Series postcard No. P. 1710 of Sturt St. Ballarat looking from Grenville St. towards Town Hall. Shows shelter at Grenville St, two ESCo cars travelling west in Sturt St., buildings on both sides of Sturt St and a number of motorcars in the image. Thought to be dated early to mid 1930's. Has advertisements on buildings for Robur Tea, Richmond Beer, Thornton Photographs, , W. Brown cycle and motors, Singer and Bailey Bros. Photos have the cable tram track, GEC Australia (General Electric), BGE, Coles and Garrard, Myer, Post Office, Berger Paint, London Stores, Foys .1 - Looking east from about Queen St at 4pm, with two Mk 3 buses. - PTC H188 .2 - ditto with a double deck bus east bound at 215pm, PTC H189 .3 - ditto at 3pm, nearer to Elizabeth St with multiple double deck buses in the block between Elizabeth and Swanston St and extensive motor vehicle traffic. This print has been photographed from an image - has a screen. Photos maybe MMTB origin to show traffic levels in the streets. Titled "Agreement Melbourne and Metropolitan Tramways Board with A.N. Colquhoun "signed and sealed on 18th May 1945. Bound on left hand side with green ribbon. Gave Archibald Norman Colquhoun the right to advertising on the inside of tramcars and buses and on the rear of tickets for five years. Gave details of the contract, minimum payments, rebates and conditions of the contract. Funded by the Australian Government Transport (Planning and Research) Act 1974, prepared by the MMTB Engineering Department Technical Services Department. Gives an introduction to chopper control technology, summary of the findings of the study, 25% saving in energy. 1 - Colour slide of the former Geelong A Power Station on the corner of Yarra St and Corio Tce (now Brougham St). First portion on the corner built by the Electric Lighting and Traction Co of Australia. The Geelong tram depot, operated by the Melbourne Electric Supply Co was incorporated within the structure during 1912. Operated by the State Electricity Commission from 1930 until the 1960's. Photo taken prior to the demolition of the chimney during the late 1960's. 2 - Colour slide dated April 1971, taken after the chimney has been demolished. Yields information about the former Geelong A power station prior to its partial demolition and incorporation into a shopping centre.
