The Northern District School of Nursing opened in 1950 in to address the issues around nurse recruitment, training and education that had previously been hospital based. The residential school was to provide theoretical and in-house education and practical training over three years. The students would also receive practical hands-on training in the wards of associated hospitals. The Northern District School of Nursing operated from Lister House, Rowan Street, Bendigo. It was the first independent school of nursing in Victoria and continued until it closed in 1989. The book "The First of its Kind" was published in 2015. Printed in Bendigo by "Bendigo Modern Press". The writer duties covered all areas of finance, her memories cover the administration of the nursing course at NDSN Lister House prior to its closure. Three pages of memories of attending the first-year start-up of the NDSN at Lister House Bendigo by June Palfreyman from 1975 to 1989. PTS School 108 was the final school, when training was transferred to La Trobe University enabling trainees to embark on a University Degree course. Memories cover the administration of the nursing course at NDSN Lister House prior to its closure. Joseph Henry Abbott founded the business in 1853 with a store that supplied everyday essential items to those seeking their fortune on the goldfields. The timing and choice of store ensured that he would become a prominent part of the Bendigo business scene. Abbott's next venture was to establish the New Times Boot Market & Factory in Pall Mall, Sandhurst. In 1867, his wife took over running the shop which was located next to the Bendigo Arcade near Williamson Street. In 1876, the leather business of T Baulderstone was purchased, and operations were further expanded later by the acquisition of the Edinburgh Tannery at Sheepwash Creek, and The Edinburgh Leather & Grindery warehouse in Bull Street, Sandhurst. In 1889, Joseph Abbott passed all interests in the business to his son, who shared the same name, in partnership with an adopted son, Richard Hartley Smith Abbott. "Mr D. Danson is one of the leaders of the industry around Bendigo. His property is at Kangaroo Flat, and besides being a grower, he has a factory for the manufacture of pulp and tomato sauce. Mr Danson was engaged in dairying in the Gippsland hill country at Thorpdale, but 14 years ago went to Kangaroo Flat with the object of being near a big centre where there were better facilities for the education and employment of his family. He converted the property of 20 acres at Kangaroo Flat into a dairy farm and established a milk round at Bendigo. The limited area, however, proved a drawback, and attention then was given to tomato growing. After having concentrated on the production side, he installed a plant for the treatment of his own tomatoes, and those of other growers. Yellow covered booklet 'History of the Bendigo Goldfield from its commencement in 1851 to June 1881' Presented with the Eaglehawk Specimen Case and giving a description of its contents, for transmission with the said case to England. Dedicated to G.D. Peters, Esq, London, by Mr. Hay Kirkwood, Eaglehawk. Inside first page ( un-numbered) 'The Bendigo Goldfield Compiled by Messrs Hay Kirkwood and Wm. Welch. The Rise and Progress. At the latter end of 1851, a few enterprising pioneers, with Captain Harrison, now police magistrate of Castlemaine, made their way from Forest Creek ( Castlemaine ) 30 miles distant, to a place on the Bendigo Creek, now called Golden Square, then a squatter's run, where rich auriferous ground was met with. The new soon spread far and near, and the world was soon startled with the intelligence that another very extensive goldfield had been discovered, the importance of which may be gathered from the fact that in the month of June, in the following year, six months after the first sod was raised, 80,000 ounces of pure native gold was taken by Melbourne.Printer: W. On May 2nd 1914, 7 miners were killed in a dynamite explosion in the Great Extended Hustler's Gold Mine. It was Bendigo's worst mining disaster and although an inquest found it was an accident, no cause for the explosion was found.Advertising flyer for an event held on May 3-4 2014, to mark the centenary of the mine disaster that killed 7 minersat the Great Extended Hustlers mine. Other activities included a Specimen Cottage exhibit; guided walks around the Hustlers Reef Reserve; displays on site and talks by various speakers on the mine disaster and mining technology. Event was organised by the Bendigo Historical Society in conjunction with the Hustlers Reserve committee.

Welfare details a number of areas they dealt with. The Appeals & Welfare Officer was Ernest Alfred Jackman. He served on Committee of the Bendigo Sub Branch in 1961 - 62 and 1973. He was on the Welfare Sub committee for 15years and Welfare Officer 1975 - 78. He was the Appeals Officer from 1960 - 1994.
