Book prize awarded to Minnie Monteith for excellence in Violin by Elspeth Carson in 1921. Book donated to the school by Minnie's nephew R H McCarthy of WA in 2013. Minnie also achieved Dux of the school in 1921 and held the role of Head Prefect in 1921. The book prize was provided by Miss Refisch (possibly S Rehfisch who entered the school in 1902.) This book also displays the crest of the Presbyterian Book Room embossed onto its front cover. Minnie was both Dux of the school and Head Prefect in her final year (1921) at CPLC. This book is signed by Principal Elspeth Carson who lead the inaugural year of Clarendon Presbyterian Ladies College (previously Clarendon Ladies College). Geoffrey R. Hendy was Ballarat College of Advanced Education Registrar since 9 February, 1989,and prior to that, was a senior member of the Registry staff for about 19 years. He died suddenly in Los Angelos, United Stated of America on 8 October 1991. The Ballarat University College Annual Report, 1991 states: "Mr Hendy made a major contribution to the student administrative services of the College and was a highly regarded member of staff. He will be sadly missed." Circulated between 1966 and 1988, the two dollar bank note was issued by the Reserve Bank of Australia following Australia's switch to decimal currency. It was later replaced by the two dollar coin. Trophies are awarded for sailing and speed-boat racing competitions. The Langford Cup of the early 1880s was believed to have been made of solid gold. In the 1950s speedboat racing was popular at Paynesville and Gippsland Lakes Yacht Club have loaned the trophies of the time to PMM to display. This is the Ruston and Proctor engine and boiler from the PS Little Wonder built by R Barbour, Cornella NSW. It was launched in December 1878. Owned by Murray River Sawmills, it was used for logging operations until 1904, when the vessel was dismantled. The engine and boiler was purchased by the Robins family and ran a pump on their property by the Goulburn River. The boiler was later condemned by the engine continued to be used with steam supplied by another boiler up until the 1950s. Now considered to be beyond repair. Yiannis and Anastasios were brothers and Vasilis their brother-in-law married to their sister Vasiliki. Anastasios and Yiannis worked in Kalgoorlie on their arrival in Australia and following the race riots of 1916 left W.A. for Melbourne. Anastasios eventually went into partnership with his brother-in-law Vasilis in a business in Chapel Street South Yarra. Yiannis established a fruit business in South Melbourne. The four Varigos boys, from L-R: Menelaus (Dennis), Andrew, Nikolaos and Con were photographed in the 1920s outside 38 Bourke Street, Melbourne where they lived, above the family business. Their parents, Ioannis and Ioanna-Giannoula (Lekatsas) Varigos (Varvarigos) arrived in Melbourne from Ithaca in 1914 with three children - Nikolalos (Nick), Aikaterini (Rini) and Dimitrios (Jim). A further four children were born in Melbourne - Andrew, Con, Menelaus and Olga.Like many Ithacan men, Ioannis, emigrated for work and to support his family back home. Around 1900 he travelled to Umtali, Rhodesia and worked for six years before returning to Ithaca where he married Giannoula. The couple returned to Umtali where two children were born (Nikolaos and Aikaterini) and then returned to Ithaca in 1911. In 1914 they once again departed for Rhodesia but after being stranded in Port Said Ioannis decided to take the next boat which by chance was heading for Australia. The intention of was to somehow get passage to Africa from Australia, however WWI intervened and they settled in Melbourne. Irish poet and balladeer Thomas Moore, best-known for penning The Minstrel Boy and The Last Rose of Summer, is honored in this statue prominently located in Sturt Street created by sculptor George Grant from white Carrara marble. George Grant was trained at the School of Art associated with the National Gallery of Victoria, apparently in the 1880s, and then worked as an artist, specialist house painter, and banner artist. Several of his paintings are held by the Ballarat Art Gallery. Moore`s writings range from lyric to satire, from prose romance to history and biography. His popular "Irish Melodies" appeared in ten parts between 1807 and 1835. Moore was a good musician and skillful writer of songs, which he set to Irish tunes, mainly of the 18th century. Constance Ross was an early pupil at the school attending classes during the Kennedy era (1876 - 1902), teacher until retiring in 1935, but returning 1940 - 1943 during the war years. Constance served on the Clarendon Council 1925 - 1949. In 1954 the school named a visual education centre at the Mair Street campus the IC Ross classroom. The room was furnished and equipped by the Old Collegians Association to honour the long school service of Constance Ross.
