Photograph, Foundation-Members of Intermediate Legacy Club ILC 1930, 1930
A photo of 14 the original team of men that started the I.L.C. (Intermediate Legacy Club). It was probably taken about 1930 just after the ILC was formed. The accompanying letter dated 30/11/1983 and note shows the photo was sent to Legacy by Harold Bokes and given to Legatee Frank Doolan of the archive committee for the archives on 7/12/1983. The note in Frank's handwriting shows he had identified all the members in the photo and that it had been taken by John Barnes. Back row: R. Rimmer, Dan Fitzgerald, Ted Kennedy, J Lawson, R Davidson, Frank Holliday, A Warnecke. Front row: Norman Smith, Roy Gilbert, Frank Corrie, E Kennedy, Jack Kennedy, A Lawson, Len Frazer. Absent: Jimmy MacGregor, Alan Davidson, Fred Hollingsworth, Bert Woods. Background: The ILC was formed in 1929 with a total membership of 18. The idea of the club sprang from those boys who had outgrown the Junior Legacy Club. In the early days it fielded a lacrosse team and it was this that mainly held the members together. Enthusiasm wained after a few years as it lacked a solid objective. The answer came from one of its members and in 1938 they founded the Don Esses Club. This was a club for the children of incapacitated ex-servicemen which met every Thursday night at 7.30 run by the ILC members. The name came from the signallers' code Disabled Servicemen's Sons. During the second world war 80% of the members of the ILC enlisted in the services. Leaving only 8 members that could not join due to ill health or reserved occupations. They continued the Don Esses and whatever aid they could to Legacy. ILC members had always helped Legacy where possible including being camp leaders or camp staff, with the annual demonstrations, and coffee stalls at the ANZAC dawn service. Post second world war some ILC members were nominated into Legacy, others drifted away in civil occupations. It was found difficult to recruit new blood into the ILC and eventually membership waned when the boys from the Don Esses clubs found other youth activities to join. The ILC ceased to meet regularly in the mid fifties. However a strong comradeship still existed between members and they would meet in one anothers homes. Members were always ready to help the senior Legacy Club in any way in their power and still helped at Christmas parties and summer camps. ILC was a service rendering organisation and was self governing. Non-sectarian and non-political, the members were ex-junior legatees over 18 years of age. After serving in World War 2 members were eligible to become members of Legacy. An early photo of junior Legatees who had formed the Intermediate Legacy Club in 1930.Black and white photo of 14 foundation members of the Intermediate Legacy Club and a paper label, plus a letter and a note with the names of the members.Handwritten label says 'Foundation-Members of Intermediate Legacy Club'. Photograph, Former JL and legatees, 1993
A photo and two hand written notes about a former Legacy Girls' Class attendant in 1993. It appears there was a visit by a legatee and a legatee's wife to a former junior legatee, showing that people kept in contact with Legacy for a long time. The photo shows Florence Moore (nee Moll) and her husband Bert being visited by Legatee George Standish and Jane Sullivan, who was the wife of Legatee John Sullivan (President in 1991). The note with the photo says it was for the archive in 1993. The handwritten letter from the Moores says: Dear George (Standish), . . . Enclosed is the photo I promised to send you we are Bert and Florence Moore (nee Moll). . . We enjoyed the day very much and it was sad news to learn that Flo Kennedy (one of the original Legacy girls) had passed away. Regards, Bert and Florence. In an article in the Bulletin 1979 after a reunion it is mentioned that Florence Moore (nee Moll) was the first girl to enrol in classes and senior champion in 1928.A record of a Junior Legatees being in contact with Legacy for a long time.Photo of Flo and Bert Moore with Jane Sullivan and George Standish.Handwritten on the notes on the back 'Florence Moll (Now Moore) knew Flo Kennedy. Photograph - One Fine Day - decision to move Wodonga Railway Line, 2000
On December 1, 2000 it was finally announced that the railway line would be moved away from the centre of the Wodonga CBD after many years of lobbying. Since its opening in 1873 the railway line had crossed High Street, originally called Sydney Road. The railway had bisected the city with level crossing gates frequently stopping the flow of traffic as trains passed through. The Wodonga Rail Bypass project moved Wodonga station from the original central location to a position on a new line on the northern edge of the town. Not only did this release land in the middle of the city for commercial and public use, but also eliminated 10 level crossings. The project actually commenced in 2008 with the last passenger train passing through Wodonga on 8 November 2008. On 23 July 2010, the new rail bypass was opened, and the original line through Wodonga closed. In this image the decision is celebrated by the Member for Indi, the Honourable Lou Lieberman, Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister John Anderson, Wodonga Mayor Cr. Graham Crapp and General Manager of Uncle Ben's Australia, Mr Bob Kennedy. This image commemorates a significant occasion in the development of the Central Business District of Wodonga, Victoria.A framed photo of four men celebrating the decision to move the railway out of the centre of Wodonga as well as an image of the from page of the Border Mail newspaper.wodonga railway, wodonga rail bypass, city of wodonga -

Colour Magazine, The Blues Yearbook 1972, 1972
Record of 1972 Premiership YearYearbook of 1972 Premiership Season. The foreword is by the Carlton President George HarrisColour MagazineFront Cover many player autographs from 1972 playing list including premiership players. 1972 Summary Carlton would win their 11th Premiership by defeating Richmond by 27 points at the MCG. This win would be our 3rd Premiership in 5 years, and from 4 Grand Finals (1968, 1969, 1970 and 1972) in one of the more successful streaks in our Club's proud history. In a high scoring game, Carlton scored 28.9.177 to Richmond, 22.18.150. 1972 marked the introduction of the final 5 for the first time in VFL history, one year too late for the club, which had finished fifth in the previous year. Carlton and Richmond were by far the best two clubs during the home and away season, with the Blues finishing 1st with an 18 win, 1 draw and 3 loss record, 2 points ahead of the Tigers in second place. The club played consistent footy all year, never losing two games in a row. Winning streaks included 5 in a row (rounds 5 to 9) and 8 in a row to finish the last eight home and away games. With the introduction of the Elimination Final for the first time, Carlton was the only club to have a bye in the first week of finals. In the second week, we would meet Richmond after they had comfortably accounted for Collingwood in the Qualifying Final. The Semi Final would be a great game, with the Blues opening a 13 point lead by three quarter time. Richmond would kick 4 goals in the last term to level the match by the final siren, 8.13 (61) being scored by each side. In the Semi Final Replay the Tigers would kick away from the Blues in the second quarter, winning comfortably and advancing directly to the Grand Final. St Kilda were slightly better than Carlton in the first half of the Preliminary Final, holding an 11 point half time lead. The Blues would show why they were currently a competition power in the second half, kicking 9 goals to 5 to beat the Saints by 16 points, and advance to the clubs fourth Grand Final in five years. Carlton would smash Richmond in the Grand Final, kicking 8 goals in the first quarter, 10 goals in the second, and 7 goals in the third to lead by 54 points at three quarter time. The Tigers would kick 7 goals to 3 in the final term to add some respectability to the final score, but the result was never in doubt. Letter, Copy of the Oration on the late Legatee Stan Savige, 1956
A letter dated 4 September 1956 from Legatee Jim Kennedy of Albury Legacy Club to Legatee Brian Armstrong to return a typed copy of the speech he delivered as the Savige Memorial Oration at the Federal Conference of Legacy Clubs in Canberra on 22 October 1954. Legatee Kennedy had borrowed it to make copies for Albury Legatees and other interested people. The speech is an account of Savige's life, his war service and his role in Legacy. Legatee Armstrong was a good friend of Savige. The moving address described General Savige's life and service career, and how he formed Legacy in 1923 at the suggestion of his former Commander, Major General Sir John Gellibrand. He said at the time of his death the late General had been a member of Legacy for 30 years, and had been chosen to represent Legacy at the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth. Following the Second World War he held many important posts, one of the most notable being Co-ordinator of Demobilisation. Legatee Armstrong told the conference that if a memorial to the founder of Legacy was required, they only had to look around themselves. This is an original typed copy with two other copies in the archive.A record of the life and service of Legatee Stan Savige being shared at other Legacy Clubs after his death in 1954.White quarto letter of Albury Legacy Club with white foolscap paper with black type x 4 pages of a speech about Legatee Savige.Signature in blue ink says Jim Kennedy.stan savige, jim kennedy, albury legacy -

Booklet - Reports, John Ferres, Government Printer, Safety Mining Cages. Report of the Board of Enquiry on Safety Cages 1878-9; together with proceedings of the Board and Appendices, 1879
From the Argus, Friday 18 July 1879:- SAFETY MINING CAGES. The report of the board on safety mining cages was laid on the table of the Legislative Assembly fortnight The board, which has tested the following inventions Nances, Williams patent, Jackson and Middleton's patent Sesmours patent, Allans patent, and Hassan a patent, reports as follows - 1. That the preponderance of evidence given by miners and others qualified to form an opinion is strongly in favour of the adop-tion of a safety cage for general use in the mines of this colony, provided that a reliable invention can be brought forward, and its practical utility satisfactorily determined 2. That in view of the rapid increase of cage accidents, and supported by the evidence before them, the board are of opinion that some special provision should be made to check such a prolific source of danger as is shown to exist in the working of the shaft and machinery employed for winding purposes. 3. That this check could be imposed by means of such a regulation as that at present contained in the statute, i e -" Every cage used in a mine shall be fitted with special and suitable appliances to prevent its sudden fall down a shaft and also to prevent its coming into contact with the poppet heads." The board, however, consider that mine proprietors should be permitted to exercise their own discretion in the selection of safety cages, but safety hooks and balance catches must be used in connexion with every case 4. That the board have witnessed trials of all the inventions brought under their notice, and from the result of their observations the members are of opinion that the adoption of these safety appliances will afford additional security to the large section of the community engaged in mining operations.48 foolscap pages report stitched together. safety cages, safety mining cages, george collins levey, mining, mitchell and osborne's patent safety catches for mining cages, mining cages, seymour's patent safety cage, pryor's safety cage, white's safety cage, mining accidents, dyke's freehold gmc creswick, angelo mining co castlemaine, britannia qmc ballarat, alexander kennedy smith, george r. fincham, henry roberts williams, robert clark, r. richardson, allan's patent balalrat, hassan's patent daylesford, david white, charles stewart, w.h. grainger, h.b. nicholas, t. hassan, r. allan, a.k. smith, james thomson, william collard smith, j.h. seymour, john s. delbridge, william buttle, james davidson, j.p. carolin, r. clark, thomas eyre, george marshall, g. thureau, william bottoms, robert carr, j.c. march, john keam, david park, j.a. lewis, lester's hotel, ballarat, robert allan, nancarrow saftey cage, robert malachi serjeant, robert henderson, g.f. smith, r.w. newman, william benson, f. bennett, john sharp, thomas couchman, john a. wallace, john small, william h. grainger, james cowling, tools -
