Yields information about the operation of Ballarat tram No. 36 in Melbourne to promote Ballarat after the closure of the SEC system.1060 - Newspaper clipping from The Courier, Ballarat, 15/9/1971 of the loading of tram 36 for running in Melbourne the previous day. Mitchell whose father-in-law was Harry Chauvel (led the calvary charge at Beersheba during World war 1). This document records the legal status of 'Junior Legacy, Melbourne' in 1952. Melbourne Legacy has had name changes over the years. In September 1952 Junior Legacy Melbourne was incorporated. A regular event for the widows was a Christmas concert at the Melbourne Town Hall. Often the performers were the RAAF Central Band. Held in December each year. The photos show President Swan with Inez Bruce and Vera Lang. Usually the concert was the time the Widows Clubs presented Legacy with funds raised through their fundraising each year - in this case $11,900. The RAAF Central Band was conducted by Sq. Ldr. Graham Lloyd, and trombone soloist Sergeant Mike Hawkins and Ivor Jones (ex POW from Changi) also performed. A regular event for the widows was a Christmas concert at the Melbourne Town Hall. This dress belonged to Bernice Overend, a longtime Brighton resident. Bernice Adelaide Emily Lawn was born in Ballarat in 1911. In 1938 she married Acheson Best Overend (1909-1977), an early modernist architect in Melbourne whose notable designs include the heritage-listed Cairo Flats apartment building in Fitzroy. Bernice and Best made a home together in Brighton, raising their family at 80 Were Street. Their son Darren followed in Best's footsteps, becoming an architect, and in 1979 he and his wife Jenny bought a property just down the road from his childhood home - the heritage-listed 1881 Victorian mansion 'Chevy Chase' at 203 Were Street.
