Part of a platform scale.Historical: Imperial weights used before packaging of goods. Tawonga Store opened c1920 selling produce for the farming community of the Kiewa Valley.5 circular cast iron weights with a slot from the edge towards the centre. Each has a ridge around the circumference to enable each to fit on top of a bigger one. On the top, above the slot, the weight is embossed. The set is held together with a piece of wire about 50 cm long. The set fit on to a holder which has a circular hook for hanging and a long straight cast iron rod going through a solid half sphere which is held with a nut at the base. The half sphere has a wider circular base for weights to sit on. Centre 31 Bogong High Plains Rd Mt Beauty high-country in 1922 ...in 1922 Kergunyah Park homestead was built by David Wallace in the late 1800's and remained in the family until the sale in 1922 when it was bought by John Woodside (grandfather of Ewen Wallace) whose family retained it until 1938. Another family named Wallace bought the property in 1938 and this family's descendants are still running it in 2005.David and Henrietta Wallace purchased the original holding and built Kergunyah Park homestead in the late 1800's running cattle on the property. They arrived in Australia in 1867 with their 3 children and were early settlers in the district. Their descendants still live in the district. Their family demonstrates how properties were passed on to the next generation. They dressed in whites with long sleeved shirts and trousers. The umpire was dressed very formally. The names of the players are local families and included brothers or relations with the same surname.Historical: Running Creek were premiers of the Upper Kiewa Valley Cricket Association in 1913 - 1914. Their team consisted of local men some of whom were related. The occasion was important enough to have a photo and to remember it possibly hanging the photo up in a public place eg. club rooms.Black & white photo of Running Creek Cricket Team, Premiers 1913 - 1914. Early maps spelt Tawonga differently to the current day spelling 'Tawonga'. The haystack and fence indicate that the photo may have been taken at the turn of the century. The Pearce Bros owned the Tawonga Store in the 1950s when the population of the area in the Upper Kiewa Valley and High Plains was high due to the construction of the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme by the State Electricity Commission of Victoria.Sepia photo of Pearce Bros. Centre 31 Bogong High Plains Rd Mt Beauty high-country This photo ...This photo depicts the rescue of three local skiets that became trapped on Mt Bogong during a blizzard and became known as the Cleve Cole tragedy . Mick Hull Howard Michell and Cleve Cole where skiing on Mt Bogong and could not find their way off the mountain via Staircase Spur due to Blizzard conditions and ended up in the Mitta Valley. Howard Michell walked to the Battys farm to get help for his weak and injured friends. Cleve Cole died shortly after arriving at Omeo hospital. This photo is historically significant as it tells the rescue story of this tragedy. The photos are of the people involved which add to the story. Mt Bogong Victoria's highest mountain is accessed from the Kiewa Valley and near by high plains and over shadows Mt Beauty township therefore is a local story. The photo comes from the rescue party which is a rare photo and thus has great interpretive capacity . The skiing history is one of KVHS main themes and this photo is part of our Skiing Across Country exhibitionBlack and white photo of several men in the bush near Mt Bogong. Historical: Typing was taught at Intermediate level during the 1940's for students living in the Kiewa Valley. Towards the bottom of the book (front and back) is an eyelet with a hole enabling a brown cord to pass through (held by a metal T stopper). This enables the book to be stood up next to the typewriter for easy to see copying. The back cover of the book has 3 white stickers with typed information. This coat hanger was designed prior to clips with springs being used.Wooden coat hanger with wire fitted hook used to hang trousers (or skirts) by moving a steel plate along the wire (to tighten the grip). There are 2 rectangular pieces of wood with small padding attached on the inside outer edges. Each piece of wood has wire coming out of the centre. Both sides of the paper were written on and then the paper was folded to form a letter with the name of the sender and addressee.Blue paper with orange "Aerogramme" and "Australia 12c" stamp printed on it.
