Standard WW2 era Australian Army issue, pattern 1937 equipment pack made of heavy weight cotton webbing material in the standard khaki colour. This pack was carried on the wearer's back, supported by two straps worn over the shoulder. These packs were used by military personnel to carry personal equipment items whilst in the field. This pack type is square in shape and has additional straps for attaching to webbing. The front of the pack has 'NX 83432 G Siddaway' written in black. The top flap of the pack is secured by two straps which attach to brass buckles secured by canvas loops to the front of the pack.This pack is stamped with the standard Australian Dept of Defence mark and has the serviceman's name "NX 83432 G. Webbing Anklet (Gaiter), 1953
This anklet dates to 1953 and may be associated with the Korean War (1950-1953). This anklet web is an example of Australian military uniform dating back to the mid twentieth century. Olive drab woven webbing anklet. The anklet is made of a rectangular strip of fabric which is straight along one edge and curved to fit an ankle along the other side. Outside of anklet: two buckles are stitched on with straps of woven cloth, one placed near the top of the anklet, one near the base. The opposite end of the anklet has two black leather straps which may be attached to buckles when worn. Leather straps are stitched on with black thread. Inside of anklet: lower third has a cotton, olive drab lining. Portable Resuscitator Electric Therapy Unit
A shock of different voltages was delivered to a person using the two metal handles or two heavy soft wire combs (missing but known of) were moved across the skin. Perhaps this was an early TENS Unit. The unit came to the donor's grandfather (Roy F. Leibig - Chief Electrical Inspector of the Brunswick (Melbourne) Electric Supply) for repair and returned to his keeping once it had become obsolete (upgraded by newer machine). Donor often helped his Pa repair electrical equipment.Historical: The Resuscitator or Electric Therapy Unit was used in hospitals, possibly Mental hospitals. Provenance: The donor worked at Mt Beauty in the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme with the State Electric Commission of Victoria as an electrician. Black wooden smooth box with clip fastener which is screwed on - 3 screws for the base and 2 for the lid. On top of the box is a leather strap for the handle fastened by steel screwed into the box. Inside: A mask with attached strap. Tap fitting loosely into steel box. Metal cylinders and a Cardboard box. A wooden lockable case, housing electrical equipment suitable for issuing high voltage shocks.In red, middle of the side with fastener - "SPARKLETS RESUSCITATOR" Scruff marks inside the lid. Simon McDonald lived in Melbourne Rd., Creswick.Simon McDonald (1906 - 1968) was a noted self taught Australian folk musician whose home was in Creswick. Consider in the industry as the most important.20 Button Anglo Concertina & Case. Hexagon shaped Concertina. Both sides have fretwork and 10 bone buttons making it a 20 plus single button Anglo concertina. The leather straps have at sometime been replaced with white plastic strap. It has 5 bellows in black and white pattern leather. Apron belonged to and was used by midwife Mary Howlett. Mary Howlett (1840-1922) began practising as a country midwife in 1866 in the western district of Victoria. She qualified as a 'ladies monthly nurse' in 1887 and continued to practise as a nurse and midwife until 1920.She began her six months training at the Melbourne Lying-In Hospital. She was known by many as 'Auntie', and her career spanned more than 50 years. Mrs Howlett's midwifery box and contents were given to Dr Frank Forster, and he donated them to the museum collection in 1993.Hand made white linen apron. Consists of a small bib at front, with two long shoulder straps attached to a long gored skirt. Shoulder straps have three mother of pearl buttons, and there are four buttonholes at the back of the waistband of the skirt. The skirt is divided into three gores and has a darted waist. On the right side of the skirt there is a large patch pocket. The skirt is finished with a false hem.midwifery -

Used for polio patient for sleeping - to stop the legs turning over. Polio disability aid. Callipers were fitted to lock up the knee joints of weakened leg to enable a person to walk without their legs collapsing and to pick the foot up from the ground when foot drop had occurred due to paralysed skin muscles. The polio patient found these devices restrictive and uncomfortable. See KVHS 1796, KVHS 1798Used by Wilma Davies, a Kiewa Valley resident, who suffered from polio from the early 1950s.Metal frame for each leg to fit in a 'V' shape from the waist to the feet.
