Murals: Eileen Robertson, a GMH employee, was asked to do the murals in 1948 for the launching of the Holden. Her brief was to 'do something to do with transport'. In the event, they were covered anyway. She did not even view them again until 1992, around the time the murals were cleaned and restored. The left mural shows pioneer transport and on the right is the future. When the factory closed he was given numerous artefacts including photos, many of which were scanned into the CD that he donated to the society.CD containing 24 directories of photos from the Government Aircraft Factory in Lorimer Street. The author, Michael Hiscock, is a descendant of Liardet (brother of Penny Blazey, gt gt gt grandaughter). He brought this copy of the Journal to the 1999 'Lee-ar-day' event and donated it to the Society.An account of the life of 'Wilbraham Frederick Evelyn Liardet: Romantic visionary of the Beach 1839-1862" by Michael Hiscock - article in LaTrobe Library Journal vol 13 no 54 pp 4-14. Also contains article on sculptor James Gilbert, and Liardet sketches. Centre fold-out has excellent reproduction of Pier Hotel in its heyday. Do Drop In was a general store and hall from 1937 until 1955. It also served as a bus terminal up until 1979. The shop, hall and vintage buses were destroyed by fire 4 May 1980. The original holiday house was still occupied until 1982. York on Lilydale now occupies the site of Do Drop In.'Do Drop In' was an important institution in Mt Evelyn for many decades. The fire destroyed this part of the history of the village, so it is nice to have this photo as a memento of this event.Photograph mounted on particle board.Labels on back indicating that the photograph has been in an exhibition. Starting his career as a waterside worker he went on to become an official of the Waterside Workers' Federation and President the the South Melbourne ALP. In 1979 he was elected the the Victorian Legislative Assembly as the member for Albert Park. Throughout his parliamentary career he held a number of portfolios and was a great supporter of all things related to his birthplace, Port Melbourne.
