1 NAL - Mt. Lyell - (Mt. Lyell) O 5; 1 NBL - 1st. class saloon car (20) In Active Service Puffing billy railway NAL FIRST-CLASS SALOON CAR. Four saloon end-platform cars originally built during 1901–1902 by the Lancaster Railway Carriage and Wagon Company Ltd. for the 3'6" gauge Mt. Lyell Mining & Railway Company in Tasmania and classed O. Converted for use as second-class cars on the 2'6" gauge Puffing Billy Railway during 1965–1966, these cars were reclassified NBL and numbered 1–4. The L recognises their Mt. Lyell origin, No. 1 was kept for use as the Railway's VIP car and was reconditioned to a higher standard. No. 2 was similarly upgraded in 1985 for use on special occasions. In 1989 No. 3 was similarly reconditioned with No. 4 receiving similar treatment in 1995. These cars were re-classified NAL in recognition of their new first-class nature. The Mt Lyell Railway was closed in 1963 and subsequently dismantled, but fortunately several of the locomotives and carriages passed into preservation. This original Mt Lyell Railway passenger carriage was donated to the Puffing Billy Preservation Society by the Mount Lyell Mining & Railway Company in the 1960s and was converted to 2' 6" gauge. The original postcards in this series (2013.002 to 2013.018) were generously loaned to Williamstown Botanic Gardens by a private collector for copying. The Curator’s lodge, designed by the Town Surveyor, HV Champion, was constructed in 1907 following the re-organisation of the north-east corner with the demolition of the old curator's cottage and erection of new gates. Both the lodge and lake (1904) were built during the curatorship of Mr Thake. The logo in the middle of the words ‘POST CARD’ indicates the card was printed by M. Schulz in Prague. Schulz was a long-established company from Prague and printed postcards for customers from worldwide. Schulz printed in photo-chromolithography. The postcards are evidence of the interest the gardens held as a subject for postcard publishers. The text and images provide a snapshot into fashions, social interests and concerns of the time. The professionally produced images provide a pictorial history of Gardens including changing planting styles, various structures and features of the Gardens eg the aviary, cannons, the fountain, the second Curator’s Lodge and gates. The images offer an opportunity to compare garden vistas with the present day.A colour image of the ornamental lake and part of the Curator’s Lodge. The lodge has a green roof, tall brick chimney, is brown timber with brick where the fireplace would be. The small island with a succulent is in the centre of the image. The image looks across the top of the lake where the rock edging can be seen. Reflections of the plantings and lodge can be seen.Front: ‘Williamstown Gardens’. Sarah Coventry Pty. Ltd. was a North American jewellery company that was established in 1949 by the Stuart family as part of Emmons Jewelry, Inc. It began operations in England and Australia in 1968, and in Australia it moved from Carlton in Melbourne to Wodonga in 1969. The premises were originally on High St. in Wodonga, but a new warehouse was built in Melbourne Rd. later in 1969. It was a direct selling jewellery business using a party-plan model similar to Tupperware and Avon. The sales reps or 'Hostesses' were provided with jewellery samples in demonstration kits, which they displayed at jewellery parties in their homes. The designs for jewellery such as brooches, necklaces, earrings, chokers and bracelets were purchased from freelance designers and jewellery manufacturers rather than in-house designers. In 1979 Sarah Coventry Pty. Ltd. in Wodonga was bought by three Australian businessmen, including Wodonga local Jim Sawyer, and continued to sell jewellery under the name "Sargem Pty. Ltd”, for several more years in the 1980s. As part of the Sarah Coventry collection, the pin has local significance with the decentralised commercial development of regional centres such as Wodonga in NE Victoria, as well as national and international significance from the perspective of social and economic developments for women after World War II. The direct selling party-plan business model Sarah Coventry was based on is also considered the first of its kind for jewellery.Small rectangular gold metal pin with a small pearl inlay on the proper left side for 15 years service. The 10 K stamp on the back surface suggests it is 10 karat gold.The abraded areas on the clasp on the back expose underlying silver coloured metal indicating that the clasp is plated. A chronicle of officials of the G.C.C. during 1909. This honour board has an important place in the history of the Geelong Cycling Club and signifies the high esteem in which the community held cycling in the early part of the 20th century. Decorative wooden frame around individual photographs on oval ceramic plates and mounted on a wooden background. These are surrounded by pressed metal floral decorations. John Joseph MASON No 418670 Wireless Air Gunner (WAG) enlisted in the RAAF on 29.5.1942 age 19 years. After 5 Training postings he embarked for Canada on 15.1.1943 arriving 31.1.1943. He then did Training in Edmonton, Calgary and Mossank before embarking to England 21.10.1943 arriving 30.6.1943. After more Training at several postings he was finally posted to No 158 SQD RAF flying Halifax Bombers and commenced operational flying on 5.11.1944. He rose through the ranks to Flt Sgt on 31.12.1944 and then granted a Commission as F/O on 12.3.1945. He transferred to 466 SQD RAAF on 26.5.1945. His records are a bit sketchy but it appears he flew 11 Operational Sorties. His Commission was terminated on 19.3.1946. His brother Hugh who was also in the RAAF and home at the time told the story that when the aircraft was hit his mother new something had happened to Jack.Photograph, framed. Safe home. Margaret 'Catherine' McVeigh joined the Women's Royal Australian Air Force in 1951, aged 19, discharging at her own request on 10 July 1956. Margaret then joined the Victoria Police Force on 20 June 1956 and served in the Women Police Division. Following the application of the Equal Opportunity Act, Margaret moved to general police duties on 4 January 1979. She was then in charge of No. 3 Division "O" District (Mounted Branch, Police Dog Squad and the Police Horse Stud Farm). In 1973 Margaret won the Churchill Fellowship award and travelled overseas to study the integration of women into world police forces. She then joined the International Police Association and was issued this identification card. Margaret was the first female member of the Victoria Police to attain the rank of Chief Inspector and subsequently Superintendent and Chief Superintendent.
