There is a sign for Peter Stuyvesant cigarettes on the roof of the lean-to. The old brick office buildings of the Murray River Sawmills were demolished around 1975. This photo relates to the series P000105-P000107. Sawmills in the Echuca area were historically and socially significant being a large employer in the area. The Murray River sawmill was one of the biggest and longest operating sawmills in the area. Photo depicts the interior of the Strachan, Murray & Shannon Limited wool store in Geelong after a record price was reached for the wool shown. This occurred on 24 November, 1920. This photograph was owned by the donor's father, Mr Cyril Cameron. Mr Cyril Cameron came from the family property 'Burnside' near Glenthompson in the Western District. He joined Strachan & Co. as an office boy in Aug. 1914 and then joined the 8th Battalion, 1st AIF in January 1915. He returned to Australia in early 1920 and started work at Strachan's again. He did the wool classing course (one year, evening?) at the Gordon in 1920-21. He became Head Wool Valuer at Strachan's in 1938 and retired in 1970. His office at Strachan's was on the top floor, directly overlooking what is now the entrance to the National Wool Museum (formerly Dennys Lascelles woolstore). He died in 1983. This photo was originally framed together with a similar photo (3121) and a document detailing the wool sale (3123) under the title "Record Sale 24 November 1920". The two photos focus on lot 372, one looking to the north and the other to the west. ‘A’ Squadron 8/13 Victorian Mounted Rifles conducted a parade at Buna Barracks, Albury on Sunday 1 May 1988 to mark the 103rd Anniversary of the formation of the Victorian Mounted Rifles and the 40th Anniversary of the linking of the 8th (Indi), 13th (Gippsland) and 20th (Victorian Mounted Rifles) Light Horse Regiments to form the 8th/13th Victorian Mounted Rifles. Colonel G K Howard, Director of the Royal Australian Armoured Corps was the Reviewing Officer. The Pipes and Drums of the 5th/6th Battalion Royal Victorian Regiment provided the music for the occasion. Relates to a series of 5 photos:P000094-P000098 of the front of the Bridge Hotel on the corner of Murray esplanade and Hopwood gardens. These photos taken in 1976, were before the Port Restoration Scheme renovated the hotel.The Bridge Hotel, Echuca is of historical and social significance in that it was originally built by Henry Hopwood, the founder of Echuca. Hopwood built the hotel to provide accommodation to people using his punts across the Campaspe and Murray rivers. The hotel was situated between the 2 punts. The hotel provided for a variety of levels of accommodation from grand rooms to very basic rooms. At the time of the photos the hotel was 120 years old and became an important part of the Port of Echuca tourism. Photograph - of a K class four-wheel or single truck tram on a PMTT route 14 (STRATHALBYN ST (Kew) - VICTORIA BRIDGE) tram service, at Harp Road and High St. The reference gives the tram based at Kew Depot in 1928. The tram was originally a Prahran and Malvern Tramways Trust tram, though, by the time of this photograph, it has been re-lettered for the MMTB, which took over the PMTT in 1920. The photograph has been marked up for a submission possibly to either Council or the MMTB for a waiting room or shelter at this location. The wall of the Harp of Erin Hotel and a Victoria Bitter sign can be seen on the right-hand side. The original photo appears to have been torn. Gertrude Perry was born in California Gully in 1917. Her singing skills were recognized at an early age. She later sang with local choirs and sang on radio. She was involved with the Bendigo Operatic Society for many years. Gertrude began her working life in sales. After studying book keeping she worked at the Bendigo Ordnance Factory during WW2 and then worked for local solicitors and accountants. Gertrude was involved with many community and sporting organizations.V.S.C.C. Inc. T. Ready Gates erected by Roy Ready, son of T. Ready. The gates were removed in the late 1950s. After being missing for some years, the gates were located in the Council depot, refurbished by Ian Stones, and in 2017 were placed on display in the Museum.Black and White photo of Memorial Gates that were once the Murray Street entrance to the Rutherglen Park. The train is headed towards Surrey Hills station. In the background are the Hamilton Street shops with advertising posters on their rear walls. The donor George Lister Coop was about 27 years of age when he took this photo. It is one of a small series of photos donated by him that relate to Mont Albert and Surrey Hills stations. He has always had an interest in railways and there are other examples of his documentation of railway history in other collections contributing to this database. Geoffrey Charles Murray No 3411521 served approximately 12 years in the Regular Army. Served Vietnam with A Sqd 3rd Cavalry Regiment (Armoured Personnel Carriers) from 27.11.1967 to 22.10.1968. Geoff was involved during that time in the Battles of Coral and Balmoral.
