Steam Rail Victoria is a Preservation Society which runs tour specials throughout Victoria. This particular train is being pulled by an R Class loco on a Yarra Glen Special. The carriages behind are Blue Harris carriages which were normally used on the electrified system. the train is approaching Surrey Hills from Chatham station.A coloured photograph of a Steam train blowing steam as it plows along pulling a number of blue carriages. One of the large cannons located in Port Fairy in reply to the threat from foreign invaders. Originally located in the fort on Battery Hill they migrated to various destinations around the town. One of the two originally located at King George Square found its way to the gardens where it occupied several locations before resting at the car entrance to the Gardens - possibly when the Avenue of Honour was planted in Bourne Avenue. 8 NBH - Excursion Car (28) In Active Service - Belgrave Station Yard 8NBH - Excursion carriage. This car has been restored to original condition with white canvas weather blinds,Full carriage length side steps, timber tongue and groove boards,coupling centering springs and some pinch gas lighting equipment. NBH SECOND-CLASS EXCURSION CAR. The H was recognising their use for "Holiday" traffic. 15 of these cars were built in 1919 and numbered 1-15. Two more were built in 1981, and numbered 16 & 17. Two extended versions for wheelchair passengers were built in 1981 & 1983. These were numbered 51 & 52 - a separate number series due to the different type of vehicle. Six, numbered 18-23, were built in 1997-98. These had steel frames, padded seats, and a wide "window sill". At first glance they look the same as the previous NBHs. There are other minor construction differences due to the use of steel framing. 18NBH entered traffic 19/4/1997; 19NBH on 5/12/1997; 20NBH on 19/12/1997, the others added in 1998. In February 1959 eight NBH carriages were tranfered from storage at Newport to Colac in time for the first tentatively organized trip over the Colac-Beech Forest railway line. Eventually seventeen excursion trains ran, with carriages and an NC guard's van, usually hauled by G41 or G42, but occasionally 14A locomotive. The train run by 14A ran soon after the carriages were delivered.B/W. At McDevitt station locomotive 14A passes through on a rare NA-hauled eight excursion carriage and NC guard's van train. This toy belonged to Graeme McLeod and was used during the late 1940s and early 1950s. It was then used by his children during the 1970s and 1980s.Red tin typewriter with a blue roller carriage, metal bar to hold the paper and a knob at the end of the roller to turn the paper. A red and black inked ribbon is stretched across in front so that when the chosen letter is selected and the press bar activated, the letter types onto the paper. On the 1st March, 1959, the first special train was organized by the Australian Railways Historical Society in conjunction with the Kanyana Festival Committee of Colac, Victoria. It proved so popular that additional trains were later organized. Temporarily in storage at Newport railway yards eight NBH excursion carriages were transferred to Colac which ran on the special trains until early-1962. A A.R.H.S. "Kanyana" special excursion locomotive G41, an NC guard's van and NBH excursion carriages at halts at Gellibrand while the fireman attends to the engine requirements (or 'ER' in railways' parlance). A porter illegally in the signal box moved the points under a train coming into the south platform from a siding. The 5th carriage took two lines as shown, and brought down the overhead stanchions over both the passenger and goods lines. For about 36 hours, the service beyond Mitcham was maintained by steam trains connecting with electrics at Mitcham. Men are pictured putting up temporary overhead stanchions over the passenger lines around 10 a.m. on Saturday 22/6/1945 and another photograph shows the steam crane near the signal box lifting the Melbourne end of the derailed carriage. The other picture is on the same day 22/6/1945 of A2 engine at Box Hill. See also Item 11003 for another photo of the derailment. Accompanying typed sheet reads, "...shows the steam crane about outside the signal box lifting the Melbourne end of the derailed carriage".

Edward Pyke and Jean Maurice Glauser invented this machine with the intention of enabling the easy and quiet production of Interpoint Braille. Although widely agreed to be one of the best Braille machines of its time, production of the machines was stopped during the Second World War because of rationing and high material costs. The machine has a keyboard arrangement at one end, the other end folds out to form a platform which is held up by a metal strut with rubber capping. An upward writing model, the paper feeds from the rear and passes under the space bar. The machine has no paper feed rollers. This guards van is part of a set of matching carriages. The 1CW refers to it being a class leader or the first of that type ever built.Guards Van 1CW, steel sides painted red with a white clerestory roof, contains two compartments with a controllers section at each end of the carriage. Each compartment is made up of 3 hinged shelves, a desk with a set of shelves and pigeon holes above the desk. The ceiling is decorative pressed metal with hooks attached in rows.1CW painted on the front

With the approval of the railways, in February1959 a special tourist train was organized by the Australian Railways Historical Society in conjunction with the "Kanyana: Festival Committee of Colac, Victoria, to run from Colac to Beech Forest. Eight NBH carriages, in store at Newport, were transferred to Colac. The train proved to be so popular that additional trains were later run over the next two years until the temporarily disused Puffing Billy needed the NBH carriages returned.Locomotive G42, labelled "A.R.H.S., Special Excursion, Kanyana", with a guard's van, eight NBH excursion carriages and an additonal guard's van attached, stands at Gellibrand Station with a large group of passengers milling outside the train. 11NBHC Passenger Carriage - Excursion Car and Guard's Van Excursion Car 11 NBH which has been converted by the addition of a Guard's Van compartment by Puffing Billy Railway and re classed & numbered 11 NBHC The NBHC is a conversion from the standard NBH. This was a temporary, but long term, conversion to overcome lack of suitable guard's vans on the Puffing Billy railway. One end of a standard NBH had windows and a hand brake fitted. A padded seat replaced the standard back to back seating, and a partition separated the guard from the passenger compartment.
