Cream, brown & gold certificate awarded to Miss Mary Foster for First Prize in the Eaglehawk Branch of the Australian Natives Association Musical and Elocutionary Competitions 1908 Violin Solo Open. Certificate signed by Robert Murdoch, President and Frank Walker, Secretary. Certificate has Australian Coat of Arms at the top. On the right side is a lady dressed robes and holding a trumpet in her left hand and a wreath in her extended right hand. She is standing on stage steps. Shown in a tabular form are the timetables for each of the Ballarat and Bendigo routes in the 1960's, for Mondays to Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Gives the run number, times at various points, special workings, terminals, short workings. The tables for Sundays in Bendigo has been prepared but not filled in. In the blue section has various notes on Ballarat weekday runs, timetables. Has a number of advertisements for SEC home equipment, cookers, toasters, refrigerator, electric radiators and hot water. In the middle page is a map of the Tramway Routes, which has been hand drawn to shown North Bendigo and the depot location. Inside the rear cover, on a sheet headed "Memorandum" is a photograph, taped in of a conductor loading a pram onto a Birney tram. Typed copy of recount by Albert Richardson of a fire at Unity Mine on Tuesday 8-10-1907. Report from the Bendigo Advertiser Wednesday October 9th 1907. Notes mention Fire Brigade, miners, how the fire started and how the men down the shaft escaped when the rope crash down the shaft. On the back is a handwritten carbon copy of notes titled Famous Gold Mines of Bendigo and Eaglehawk. Notes give yields of gold for alluvial and quartz mining. Deep Shafts in 1904 of which there were eleven with a depth of more than 3000 feet and 53 over 2000 feet and two which were more than 4000 feet. Two copies of document : ineteen handwritten pages of notes on 'The Rich Victoria Hill and Its Historical Association' Signed by A Richardson and dated 30 - 8 - 1971. and a typed copy of same. Notes include: Introduction, Hotels, Mines, Mining History and descriptions of features where the signposts are. Mines mentioned in the text are: North Old Chum. Ballerstedt's first open cut, Lansell's Big 180. 20 head stamper, Lansell's Cleopatra Needle, Victoria Quartz Mine. Cleopatra's Needle was a square sectioned brick chimney with this four sided pyramidal chimney top with four vents to allow the smoke to escape whatever the direction of the wind. It was demolished in the 1950's as it had a bend in it and it was considered unsafe. Correspondence re Frederick Clark to BHS from Horace Clark 4/2/1976, grandson. Schoolteacher m. Ann Lampard, 1860. Request for family information. Reply from BHS - extract from 'Bendigo and Vicinity' re a Frederick Clark (''not the one you are researching''. In Bendigo and vicinity a Frederick Clark is written as born in Warwickshire in October 1834, left England after being taught the building trade, in 1856, and assisted in erection of old university buuildings in Carlton. Arrived in Bendigo in 1857, became interested in building batteries for quartz mining, travelling throughout Victoria and New Zealand with mining interests. Frederick entered the Eaglehawk council in 1870. Twice married his eldest son George was in the Education Department, His stepson Richard Hamilton - mining manager in Arizona U.S.A. The book Bendigo and Vicinity was printed in 1895, and this man is the only Clark mentioned.cottage, miners -

Objects. Fine black leather box, 14 cms x 6.5 cms, lined in royal blue silk satin. A 5.5 cm long silk ribbon has a .75 cm wide burgandy coloured stripe at either edge of a 1.5 cm wide pale blue central stripe. At top and bottom a richly engraved brass clasp, while in the centre is a 7shaped brass symbol, engraved with ""NEANGER 1959MARK LODGE No62, hanging from the suspender is a ^shaped brass shape engraved:"Presented to Wor.Bro. J.E.Harper, PM MASTER 1959.60. as a token of esteem EAGLEHAWK 12-10 60.On the reverse of the Vshape is a section of a ruler - 1,2,3(cms) and a scroll design.Below the inverted^shape a small rectangular shape with rounded top hangs on a small three loop chain. Bendigo Advertiser "The way we were" from Tuesday, January 11, 2005. Legal: an impressive feature of Bendigo is the Law Courts in Pall Mall. In this photograph, taken in 1929, the Gray family are pictured outside the courts where their father was a caretaker. The family are Edna, Yvonne, Alyce and Edie. The father was Claude and the mother was Edna. Also a letter to the editor from Norm Gray, Eaglehawk: the group of six people standing to the extreme right are all brothers and sisters of the Gray family. The person standing slightly apart and to the left of the group was my uncle Claude. The other 5 siblings in the group are Edna, Douglas (my father), Edith, Yvonne and Alyce. My father, third from the left, was 10-11 years old at the time. The father of the children was William Henry Gray and he was the caretaker of the Bendigo Law courts. Cornish Association Newsletter Volume 9, Number 2, June 2003 mentions the unveiling of the Long Gully Mining Monument on May 25th. The unveiling was carried out by John Bolitho Grand Bard of Cornwall in conjunction with Cr Darrel McClure. The ceremony was followed by afternoon tea supplied by the Long Gully History Group and organised by Carol Rasmussen of the Long Gully Community House. Some special guests were Gwen Phillips president of the C.A.V. and Vivian Pryor from Newquay Cornwall. The day was finished by Annual Dinner held at the Kangaroo Sports Club. Plans for other celebrations were underway. A paper, the Cornish in the First World War, was presented by Tom Luke at the Cornish association of South Australia's seminar. Black and White print of an aerial view of Bendigo SECV Bendigo tram 18 at Charing Cross terminus for the Eaglehawk route with another bogie tram and two single truck trams in the background. Trams have dash canopy lights, but no large white strip under the drivers windows. Photo not dated but appears to be at during early 1960's. Tram 18 has White Horse Whiskey ad on front dash panel, SEC Roof ads. Numbers of other trams cannot be determined. All trams have roof ads, including SEC ads and a CASTROL ad. Good view of the fountain and buildings on the north east corner. Has Ezywalkin store, City Club Hotel and other buildings. Shows traffic arrangements for cars to do a right turn from Pall Mall into Mitchell St. On a building in Mitchell St. is an advertisement for "ASTOR Radio"trams, tramways, charing cross, bendigo, mitchell st, aerial views, tram 18 -

Two page Gestetner copy of an amended timetable for tram services in Bendigo for the SECV issued 29 June 1970. Gives times for the departure from the City and the terminus for the Eaglehawk, Quarry Hill, Golden Square and North Bendigo routes. Page 1 for Monday to Friday, page 2 for Saturday and on the bottom of page 2, details of Sunday services commencing from 2pm, until about 10.30pm. May have been the last timetable issued for Bendigo. On Gestetner foolscap sized paper, stapled in the top left corner. Headed the "Northern Electricity Supply Branch / Bendigo Tramways - Amended Timetable - 29th June, 1970" 1637.1 - 2nd copy added 22/08/04 - has two staples in top left hand corner.
