Functional object - Fare Token/s, Electric Supply Co. of Vic (ESCo), 1913
Demonstrates aspects of the Ballarat Tramways fare system at the time of the one man trams, tokens which could be pre purchased by travellers and save time when boarding trams. See notes on file re these eg Reg Item 1801. Fare tokens - 1 1/2d - 21mm diameter - light brown celluloid - with "B.E.T." in large capitals on front centre of token and words "Ballarat Electric Tramways 1913" on circumference. On reverse in large font "1 1/2" and a small font "D" at top of the right - indicating token had a value of one and a half pence. For details of use see Reg. Item 1794 and Reg. item 1801.1, 1802. Black and white photograph / postcard of a collision, accident, between SEC Ballarat No. 14 and a motor truck at the intersection of Drummond St. North and Webster St. May or June 1939. Official SEC photo, there are other photos of this collision in the collection. Set of seven Kodak cardboard mounted slides - featuring photos taken during a visit to Bendigo by Eldon Hogan. Slides have slide number (26 to 32) and date "Aug 64" stamped onto them. Possibly a Xavier College Cadets tour - Eldon was involved with them at the time, given slide No. 27. Significant in being an assembled set of instructions that were used by tram crews for reference by management.Set of four SEC staff instructions stapled together for reference by managers. Stapled along the top edge with staples. Comprise: “Forest City” Signals – 5 pages – with handwritten notes on page 5, regarding “Shortening of signal section” dated 20 Jan 1965. – see Reg Item 3456 Tramcar Emergency Braking – 25/1/1965 – 2 pages – Reg Item 3457 Question and Answer paper – Brake Equipment Descriptions, etc. – 4 pages – Reg items 272, 3457, Special Order to Motorman (49/1) – 2 pages – 25/1/1965 – Reg item 3459 and 5371 for an undated issue. Has a strong association with some of the volunteer workers who undertook work for the BTPS in there 1972/73 period.Black and white photographs of the installation of a pole adjacent to No. 3 road. The depot fan is progressing, No. 1 road points have been installed, overhead troughing to No. 2 and 3 roads installed and the transformer is by No. 1 road door. Date possibly 16 June 1973 - based on the list of dates in the 1972 - 73 Annual Report. Note the little sections of rail indicating the position of the curve into No. 1 road laid out on top of the sleepers. See also Reg Item 4758 to 4760 for similar photos and colour slides. Yields information about the construction of the BPTS depot in early 1974 and its appearance.Set of four Black and white photographs of how the BTPS operated during the early days of the BTPS. Based on the troughing being placed for No. 2 road only, photo dated by a list in the 1972-73 Annual Report at May to June 1973. .1 - ? Bounds standing alongside No. 27, which was operated as a Museum display. .2 - Just the tram itself - was pushed out of the shed by hand. .3 - A general scene with visitors and workers. .4 - pushing the tram back in again at the end of the day. Note the sign is different in the front of No. 27, or no sign, indicating different days.
