Dressmakers used patterns to make clothes. Companies included 'Simplicity, Butterick and Vogue etc. The packet would contain transparent paper shapes with printed lines and instructions. These were pinned onto the material, cut, then sewn together as per the lines and the included instructions.In the 1950s and 1960s women sewed the clothes for the family. The Mt Beauty area is picturesque during each of the seasons and therefore an attraction for tourists. During the 1980s and 1990s the Pondage Walk was popular as visitors were able to borrow a tape recording and stop along the way listening to the history of the area.After the completion of the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme Mt Beauty became a tourist destination. Mt Beauty residents swam in the local rivers. The Drawings were to be used for manufacture of all the components of the Pikrose engine.Some of the Pikrose Engine was manufactured by Austin Hopkinson and Co. Ltd. The drawings belonged to the SECV and were created in the 1950s. Beginning in the mid 1800s, photographers used glass plates to capture image - collodion wet plate and gelatin dry plate. Collodion wet plate negatives were in use from c1851 until 1880s. Gelatin dry plate negatives late 1880s - 1920s. Called an ambrotype is comprised of an under exposed glass negative placed against a dark background . The dark backing material creates a positive image.Man in photo is unknown in a uniform but not very serious so it could be a 'fun thing to do'.
