In 2014 Federation University Australia was formed with the merger of University of Ballarat and Monash University Gippsland Campus. Although formally created as a university in 1994, the University of Ballarat had a lineage back to 1870 with the establishment of the Ballarat School of Mines. The following new buildings were completed: Physical Education Complex Union Building (later named the Albert Coates Complex) The Education building (T Building ) was nearing completion and would be the largest single building on the Mount Helen Campus. Sheetmetal was introduced to the Ballarat School of Mines in this year, as was the Ballarat Junior Technical School - a division of the Ballarat School of Mines. Assay and Chemical Laboratories remodelled. It was decided that the new Ballarat Technical Art School would be built on the site of the former Circuit Courthouse, which for many years served as a Museum for the School. It was noted that demolishing this building would remove one of the very oldest landmarks of Ballarat. Swinger operated between 1972 and 1975 at Ballarat Civic Hall. The Ballarat Observatory was transferred to the Ballarat East Council. Thomas S. Hart resigned to fulfil the position of Head Master of the School of Forestry at Creswick. B. Whitington resigned to fill the position of Directorr of the School of Mines at Queenstown, Tasmania. The Kew Philharmonic Society was founded by Dr. Ehrenfeld, c.1946, who was also the Orchestra's first conductor. He was succeeded by Harold Badger in 1954 following the death of the former. During the 1940s and 1950s, the Orchestra played its concerts in the Kew Recreation Hall in Wellington Street. In 1960, the Orchestra relocated to the new Kew City Hall in Cotham Road (the site of the current Kew Library).The Arthur Dear Collection is a comprehensive collection of theatrical ephemera relating to performances by theatrical and musical organisations from within and outside the former City of Kew who typically performed at venues in Kew during the 1950s and 1960s.The fourth annual report of the Kew Philharmonic Society.
