The site of H A ("Herbie") Sherriff's business, Emerald Motors, was a former blacksmith's shop on the corner of Main Road and Kilvington Road. The sign over the shop bears the word "PLUME": This was a "motor spirit" (fuel) produced by Standard Oils and sold in Australia 1916-1954.The signage and the two cars visible (one late model and one early) establish the time the photograph was taken. Eltham Gateway, Unit complex at 72-74 Bridge Street, Eltham at corner of Main Road. Before reconstruction of Main Road, this intersection had deep cutting embankments on all four corners. Roadworks and private development have levelled the land on the low side of the road. Battista Borsa was from Bellinzona in Ticino, Switzerland. He named his house on the corner of Main road and Seventh St in Hepburn Springs "Bellinzona". His daughters ran the house as a guest house in 1900. This house was burnt down in the 1906 Bushfire. it was rebuilt in Edwardian tradition, and was again burnt down and rebuilt on a much larger footprint. Set of photos from c. 1980s pertaining to Hermon's Removals. William (Bill) Hermon Junior established a furniture removals business in 1935. Their depot was on the corner of Main Rd and Snodgrass St, Pakenham. When Bill's younger sons Ken and Ron, acquired the business in 1994 the business was renamed Hermon's Rainbow Removals, which remains in operation today. 1. This photograph shows the original Safeway store in Grimshaw Street Greensborough. The first Woolworths store was located at the corner of Main Street and Para Road c1978. Lister's petrol station at the corner of Main Road and Bridge streets. The petrol station replaced Levy's Vegetable and Fruit Market circa 1940s. Mrs Bon Strange and her husband Bert were well known Ballarat residents. When Mrs Strange died some years ago, her extensive slide collection was sorted through and those relevant to Ballarat were gifted to the Ballarat Library.

Situated at 810 Main Road on the corner of John Street. The Church was surrounded by a picket fence and tall pine trees. The Church was built by George Stebbings in the 1850s and is an example of fine craftmanship. Formerly Wesleyan, Methodist then Uniting church; the foundations of the church building were constructed with stone from the walls of the first Eltham State Primary School (No. 209) building which collapsed in 1874 and were purchased by Robert David Taylor. REVISED STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE, CONTEXT, 2010 via Victorian Heritage Database What is significant? The 1880 bichromatic brick church and the surrounding site to the title boundaries. How is it significant? The church is architecturally, historically, socially and spiritually significant to the Shire of Nillumbik. Why is it significant? The church is architecturally significant as a finely detailed example of a brick 19th century rural community church, one of only four in the Shire (Criteria E & B). The church is historically significant as an important link with the time when Eltham was a small, insular country settlement. Also for the historical evolution visible in the complex, with the modest 1880s church and larger red brick rear hall from the early 20th century as a reflection of population growth in the area (Criterion A). He sold the property and it was purchased for Mobil Service Station (since demolished in the 1990s). This photo was taken by Council in response to a request from the garage proprietor to cut down the trees, presumably based on a claim of visibility. Council's investigation indicated the trees on either corner did not impede visibility which was reported in Council minute 23 Nov 1959.Record of various Shire of Eltham infrastructure works undertaken during the period of 1952-1962 involving bridge and road reconstruction projects, sometimes with Eltham Shire Council Project Reference numbers quoted. It was during this period that a number of significant improvements were made to roads and new bridges constructed within the shire that remain in place as of present day (2022).
