During winter skiers skied on the Bogong High Plains. During the 1940's the State Electricity Commission of Victoria was constructing the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme and skiing was part of their employees recreation. Skippy St Elmo won ski races during the 1940's practising on the High Plains where she and her husband lived. Her husband worked for the S.E.C.V..Employees of the State Electricity Commission of Victoria were early skiers on the Bogong High Plains. The State Electricity Commission of Victoria built the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme and was keen to promote tourism in the area. The booklet includes Facilities, Falls Creek Ski Resort, the Kiewa Works Area, the Three Floras of Bogong, the Geology of the Kiewa area, the Bird and Animal life of Bogong and the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme. The colored photos and the map on the back appeal to the reader/tourist.The SECV promoted tourism in the Kiewa Valley especially the area of the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme. This booklet is attractive and informative with a lot of detail. This proved to be the early stages of tourism in the area in what is now a very popular tourist destination and the main industry for the Upper Kiewa Valley.Blue cover with photo of Falls Creek at night. The papers have been collected in correspondence since 1947 and cover many of the retail shops in Mt Beauty. The sale of the shops by the State Electricity Commission during the 1960's when the construction of the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme was completed. Owners of the Mt Beauty Supermart and Newsagency and Falls Creek Mini-Mart, Samuel Keith Pearce and Gordon Cathew Pearce's documents are included. The papers record a period when the SECV sold the retail shops in Mt Beauty after the completion of the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme. The interest in this picture is the two ex servicemen are wearing the Gallipoli Star. This decoration was approved by King George V to be awarded to Australian and New Zealanders who landed on the Peninsula. After much controversy the medal was not issued. A Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) burial ground, the Dickebusch Old Military Cemetery, is a burial ground for the dead of the First World War and the Second World War. It is located at Dickebusch in the Ypres Salient in Belgium on the Western Front of the first war. Ida May Boughen was born in Rainbow in 1908. In the 1940s she was office secretary of the Presbyterian Girls' Fellowship. She was commissioned as a deaconess in 1946 and was appointed the Presbyterian Fellowship of Australia field secretary between 1946 and 1951. The Forests Commission had a large and active engineering branch which was often called upon for major demolition or quarry work. Most overseers, as well as some foresters, were trained in the use of explosives to “blow stuff up” such as removing stumps and rocks from roads. Stanley Couzens of the Wathourong community was commissioned by Geelong Wool Combing Ltd to create a painting of the You Yangs and Corio Bay to be reproduced on a jumper. The jumper itself was designed by Jeni McMahon using Merino wool from her property McMahon Farm Pty Ltd. One of a batch of yarn sample cards. Alexander Lau established his business in 1950 in the Nicholas Building, 37 Swanston Street, Melbourne. He designed textiles and commissionned many of his textiles to be spun andf woven in Geelong mills. He had a long association with the Returned Soldiers and Sailors Mill and with Mr Schofield, the manager.
